The 12 Months of 2011
Coming out from under the black cloud that seems to follow me and listing twelve things that didn’t suck about this year, (at least) one good thing per month. That’s not to say I’m only glad about 12 things…but it’s been a long and emotionally exhausting trip so please understand the need for brevity and my inevitable memory loss.
January: Thought going to the suburbs for a wedding in the cold would completely suck, but it really didn’t. It was loads of fun. Thanks, Lisa and Dave!
February: Worked for a month @Groupon—definitely not my thing, but free coffee and soda with my paychecks.
March: Still cold? Still sucks? Yup. But I didn’t starve and wasn’t homeless so…
April: Met and had actual conversation with @PatrickStump after his solo show @Schubas. *Swoon*
May: Melissa made a boy! Sure, she had a little help, but after three girls, the boy announcement was an adorable surprise. Love that little Jackson!
June: Did we go to the beach? Slurpees? Probably.
July: Went to Texas for Carlos’s wedding and got to spend time with my family thanks to the generosity of @MeredithStephens who donated her airline miles to me.
August: Lollapalooza volunteering was fab and I might’ve seen Mr. Stump again. And my mom visited. And Northhalsted Market Days. August was good.
September: First long-distance Amtrak to Missouri to see my second family in their new Springfield home. Definite non-suck. Except the commute and shortness of trip.
October: Chipotle basically fed me all month AND I got to help feed others. Win.
November: Thanksgiving and all I had to do was show up with cider and cut the turkey. Thanks, SmithShow.
December: Got to road trip it with aforementioned second family after a quick visit at their homestead. Entire trip was an adventure and I got to see almost all my kids for Christmas!
Other fun: Wine Riot, Beer Hoptacular, Rock for Kids events, City Chase Chicago, Chesser wedding. Interviewed CSS and Grouplove. Did a lot of things for free (or little $). Finally got an iPhone. Plus, the release of Soul Punk which takes me to a happy place on the daily.
The end?
