Double Game
I had not heard of Sophie Calle until I came across this book in Tate Modern gift shop a few years ago and since then it has sat on my bookself unread, until i picked it up again last week and now i’m gripped. From the moment its merlot satin ribbon is untied, you are drawn into a world with blurred boundaries. She documents the intimate discoveries made from adopting various roles, such as a stripper or a chambermaid, and merging the personal with the voyeuristic.
The book was inspired novelist Paul Auster to create a character, Maria Turner, based on her for his book Leviathan. I love this book not only does it appeal to me on an aesthetic level, i also love the world that Auster and Calle drag you into. This book shows art need not be restricted to the gallery.

ホテルの客室係として働きながら、宿泊客が泊まった客室を記録する、
友人や見知らぬ人を24人を自分の部屋に招待し、
部屋で過ごす様子を８日間記録するなどの作品を発表している。
