Movie Marathon part 2

So, last weekend, I had a Disney movie marathon cos I was so tired from teaching two weeks of band camp. I just realized I never said what movie 4 was.

Movie #4: Songs of the South

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I found a copy of Songs of the South. And I don’t get why Disney banned this movie. It’s a fantastic story with amazing characters, a hearts-warming story, and addicting music. So, I did my research and found out that someone at the NAACP that had not seen the movie deemed it derogatory to African Americans. Let me emphasize that this critic had NOT seen the movie. I think they are totally wrong. The portrayal of slavery is no different than movies about the South, like Gone with the Wind. Uncle Remus helps a young boy learn through stories about Br’er Rabbit evading Br’er Fox and Br’er Bear (as seen in Splash Mountain). What’s wrong about that? Plus, everyone, including the boy’s mother and grandmother (who owns the plantation), refer to Uncle Remus as “Uncle Remus”. They don’t refer to him using the “n” word, or anything less than “Uncle Remus”. This shows a respect for the gentlemen. So, how is this derogatory towards African Americans? I hope that Disney releases this movie just to show everyone that this movie has nothing to do with racism.
