White Rabbit vs Polar Bear
Paris du 14 juillet au 15 août est généralement un désert musical. Les artistes courent le cachets dans les festivals du sud de l’Espagne au nord du Danemark. Les programmateurs les suivent dans leur transhumance pour préparer l’année à venir, nous laissant seuls dans la capitale, avec comme seule perspective des lundis improductifs pour cause de Terrassa arrosées. Pourtant dans les ténèbres, une lueur d’espoir vient du Social Club.
Le samedi 30 juillet, la JackRabbitSlim, résidence de la fringante Melle Caro et du remarquable Remain, accueillera Konrad Black et surtout le toujours indispensable Fairmont (un habitué de nos colonnes). Un excellent choix, particulièrement de circonstance si l’on se souvient du Down the rabbit hole sorti il y a déjà quelque temps par l’ami Jake Fairley. Et une soirée indispensable en cet hiver précoce où les ours polaires devraient bientôt être de sortie.
Book & DVD Swap
Some people do spring cleaning, but if you’re anything like me you probably want to be outside when the weather turns nice (especially after the brutal Chicago winter). Instead I like fall cleaning, where you gear up your home for the long hibernation ahead…. clean out the sand, the dust, the half used bottles of sunblock and of course peruse your collection of books & movies you’re about to become reaquainted with.
Well here comes the fun part - you know how you hang on to books or films because you loved them once? Wish you knew they were going to a good home (but don’t want them in yours anymore)? Want some new material but never quite make it to the library or only buy things on trips in the airport? Want to donate them but you never quite get there? Well… bring ‘em to our next gathering at Chez Jenn!
There’ll be some snacks, drinks, and (hopefully) a plethora of new material to choose from… and the best part you only have to take home what you want to! That’s right folks… even if you don’t find something for yourself (which of course you will) you’ll be able to unload all the book & dvd clutter & I’ll take them to a charitable organization (like Open Books) when we’re done picking through!
So bring a friend, or bring 2, and all the books & dvds you can carry!
