Cleaning up from the party would likely be a day-long project, but she knew she’d sleep better if at least a few things were tidied up before bed. Christmas music was playing on the stereo and she hummed along as she admired the decorations on her Christmas tree. Suddenly two hands slipped around her waist, catching her off guard. “Matt, I’m trying to cle…” She was interrupted as the hands spun her around and Naya felt her breath catch and her heart nearly jump into her throat when she realized the hands didn’t belong to Matt. “I had a great time tonight,” Heather smiled, “except for one thing…” Naya looked at Heather expectantly, the feeling of Heather’s hands on her waist leaving her unable to speak, and waited for her to continue. “I didn’t get to dance with you,” Heather whispered.
Naya couldn’t help but to giggle a little. “It wasn’t really a dancing party, Heather. No one danced with anyone.”
“Doesn’t matter,” Heather murmured, pulling Naya just a little closer. She shouldn’t be doing this. They shouldn’t be doing this. But when Naya chanced a glance into those dangerous blue eyes, she knew could never say no. And with a little nod and a barely voiced, “Okay,” Naya felt Heather begin to lead her around the room, swaying slowly to the beat of the music.
Heather’s cheek was pressed up against Naya’s. “You look extra beautiful tonight,” she breathed into Naya’s ear. Naya felt those damn butterflies stir up in her stomach and tried to will them away, but to no avail. They continued to move together in front of the Christmas tree until Naya heard his voice. Oh yeah… him… she’d gotten so caught up in the moment, she’d nearly forgotten he existed. “Babe, where are you?” he called. “Can you heat up some of that food from earlier for me? I’m starving.” Naya rolled her eyes in annoyance, trying to drown him out and hold to the moment with Heather for just a few minutes longer, but Heather was already pulling away. “I should probably go…” Heather said quietly, unable to look up at Naya as she slipped out of the room. Naya sighed heavily and watched her walk away while the music in the background continued to play.
I’ll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams
Naya felt her heart break a little when she realized how true those lyrics were.
