Unpopular Opinion

It’s funny that most social justicers I know (both IRL, and on the internet) are white.

It’s also funny that they’re always the first to cry “racism” at anything, and get offended at people being “racist”.

I actually find this “racism offense” and misunderstanding of racism to be in itself racist.

Dealing with racism every day of your life, you have an understanding of what is true racism, what is unintentional misunderstanding (though racist in connotation), and what is not racist at all.

This segregation of “POC are this, think this, and are offended by this” makes me feel singled out, in a similar way that racism does.

Some people are too happy to hand out the “CHECK YOUR PRIVILEGE” card, without checking their own.

I am POC, I am Bi, and have lived a life spanning developing countries (of my origin) to the lower middle class one I live now.

I’ve dealt with my share of closed-mindedness (racism, classism etc), and this same close-minded stubbornness appears with some SJs.

When people start saying “THAT IS RACIST” to things that are clearly not racist, it just stigmatises POC. It creates an “Us and Them” mentality, and is counter productive.

I would like to live in a world where my family, children, grandchildren, will not be judged due to colour. If this makes me racist, so be it.

(If you are a POC SJ, I sympathise. You understand racism. I hope that we have the same aim to live in a world where colour is irrelevant to what our families can do in life.)

Some of the social justice trans* activists on Tumblr are claiming it couldn’t possibly have been a trans* activist who threatened Laci Green because they’re not violent and they know better. One of those people is a self-admitted misogynist who threatened me with violence. Another has threatened other bloggers that I’ve seen. And another has some of the most violent rhetoric on this site.

Seriously, I honestly didn’t think the human psyche was actually capable of such profound Orwellian doublethink.

Last night, I saw a rape victim who’s assault was videotaped endure a lascivious rape fetishist asking to see the footage, and when the rape victim flipped out she was attacked by SJ bloggers for “kink shaming.” Another blogger who came to the defense of the rape victim was attacked as a racist.

In the last month, I’ve seen at least three bloggers endure verbally abusive bullying by the same group for disagreeing with a popular male feminist.

In the last week, I’ve seen three bloggers have to quit Tumblr because of the verbal assaults they’ve received.

I will probably receive abusive messages for writing this post.

Social activism on Tumblr has become a culture of shame and violence, in which claiming membership to a socially oppressed, marginalized population excuses group social aggression. A group so fond of trigger warnings has no problem using triggering language on total strangers for any reason. Dehumanizing threats of violence and rape are excusable as long as the victim is the target of a social justice witch hunt.

It’s become significantly worse in the last six months. I’ve gotten better at shrugging it off when it happens to me, but it’s become increasingly hard to watch it happen to others. Logging on to this site anymore has become an exercise in personal fortitude.
