Sa► Smok▲Summer Of Haze
Sa► Smok▲ is a billowing, enveloping production by Summer Of Haze that burns down lots of contemporary influences in its path, their signifiers swirling together in the heartfelt three minute track. There is no denying the siren call of that vocal sample and I especially love the little filter cuts and blown out drums/bass in the choruses. SOH’s unique touch brings some great percussion sounds/patterns and a devilish little witch house break to keep the flavors fresh here and inspire a checking out of the rest of his latest album, Screwee► Smok▲. ∞

Here’s a track to get your day started right. A few days ago Sean Nelson, the man behind the heavy hitting project Shivastep, contacted me on facebook in regards to checking out the early stream of his self titled ep (which drops today). Having seen word about the project on PRTLS recently, I knew that I’d like what I was about to hear but I don’t think anything at all could’ve prepared me for it. Now this ep is an extremely solid release from start to finish but what really blew my mind was the fact that this is Nelson’s debut, which lead me to think “holy shit!”. The ep kicks off in a way that’s both staggering and powerful with the opener “Superbass”. As the name implies, there’s no shortage of bass on this track but Shivastep truly shines (here and throughout the ep) when things begin to culminate like a perfect storm and Nelson blends elements of various genres, leaving the listener simply astonished and hypnotized. “Superbass” is nothing short of a whirlwind of electronic euphoria and the rest of the tracks found on the ep certainly follow suit. Luckily, you can find the release in it’s entirety over at soundcloud or bandcamp and also pick it up for a free download. It’s only the second day of October and already it’s looking like it will surely be another great month for music and with this debut from Shivastep, your week is certain to have a little extra kick to it.
I’d be lying if I said that it didn’t take a lot for an artist to stand out to me and keep my attention but when it comes to Chicago based producer Shivastep, I’m all ears. Sean Nelson had my ears ringing for days last year with the release of his self titled EP and now that he’s dropped Ode To Tha Grind, my speakers have been set on full blast. I’m probably going to have a severe case of hearing loss by the time that I’m thirty but this EP just begs to be cranked up and after hearing the slick, 808 heavy, trilltastic (yes I just made that up) opener “Ode” there’s no doubt in my mind that Shivastep made sure that his latest release was one to bump whenever and wherever a good time was necessary. Nelson clearly flexes his hip hop influences on each track but he also shows a keen eye for versatility and experimentation in the process by delving into various forms of electronic based music, making Ode To Tha Grind incredibly captivating and worthy of some heavy rotation. I highly recommend grabbing a copy of the EP and you can do so now by heading over to bandcamp and paying a “name your own price”.
Shivastep - Lustdance
LA producer Shivastep managed to shake some things with his debut EP in the trancey rn’b world of electronica! Fluorescent sounds are marching their way through danceable territories while threatening, powerful beats are maintaining the ghetto attitude into the club overview! It is impossible not to move into the sinister rhythms of Lustdance and Superbass and it’s a sin not to…..
