Mark Gatiss tweeted that there was a "surprise cameo" in Reichenbach Fall. Douglas Wilmer appeared as "Diogenes Gent" in the Diogenes Club. He is the person Watson initially talks to to find Mycroft.

Douglas Wilmer, aged 92, played Sherlock in numerous Television and Radio adaptations of the famous stories. He is, after Jeremy Brett, the actor perhaps most recognised for the famous role.

Bless this man.

“There's some very clever theories, some of them elaborate, and I enjoy them all," Gatiss told The Guardian. "But if I were to tell you if someone had worked it out then it wouldn't be a secret." He teased further: "[The answer] may be, sort of, in some of the theories. There's a lot of very clever people out there.”
