I don’t think it’s fair to say Cap IS a jerk. He WAS, back when sexist attitudes were even more socially acceptable — but so were a lot of other characters. I don’t see much about present-day Cap that makes him out to be a jerk. What am I missing?

He’s was never sexist alone - he’s judgemental and sanctimonious, lives and breathes double standards, and still a jerk on a regular basis

It’s taken on an, uh, slightly more subtle form that doesn’t include ladyslapping and such, but he still does plenty of despicable shit. Which wouldn’t be so bad, because character flaws are cool, but only when they’re acknwoledged in-universe and by creators - which they hardly are for Cap (except for rare cases like some of Remender’s writing), because he’s still marketed as the role model white savior of the Marvel U, despite being anything but.
