Hanna: Student Project-Turned-Hollywood Success

In 2004, Seth Lochhead came into the one-year Writing for Film & Television program at VFS with a sense of determination:

“I always had a plan. When I decided to go to VFS I said to myself…. ’I’m going to write a script and sell it,’” he said in a recent interview with the Canadian Press. “I had a lot of faith that I had the talent to pull it off. And I know that’s really egotistical, but I had this belief and everything based on that belief fell into place.”

You ask some great questions that, unfortunately, I’m hesitant to answer in a public forum (I don’t want to skew peoples’ interpretation of the final film). So, for you, I will write my answers in code:

I hope that helps with your screenwriting education. Also, no, I did not imagine her that way. I thought of her as being a touch softer, perhaps more regretful.

Seth

P.S. Congrats on the agent. If you can, and you think you’re ready, I’m starting to think John August is right, you should move to LA.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, screenwriter Seth Lochhead (Hanna) is now onboard to complete a script based on the Sony PlayStation 2 classic Shadow of the Colossus.

Josh Trank (Chronicle) will direct the film and watch over the writing process. Justin Marks (Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li) developed an early draft of the script when the project was initially launched back in 2009.

Sony and Team Ico released Shadow of the Colossus back in 2006. Along with cult hit Ico, Shadow of the Colossus was re-released in The Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection for the PlayStation 3 in 2011 — it features high-definition graphics, PlayStation Network Trophies, and 3D support.

Trank, who is currently developing Spider-Man spinoff Venom, is apparently a massive fan of Team Ico’s games and deliberately sought out the project.
