Gerade eben bin ich durch Zufall auf Selva Oscura gestossen. Ray Levinson-Fort aus Austin/ Texas, der Mann hinter diesem Pseudonym, hat sich bei der Namensgebung vielleicht bei Dantes Göttlicher Komödie bedient, denn dort heißt es: “Nel mezzo del cammin di nostra vita mi ritrovai per una selva oscura, che la diriitta via era smarrita.” (“Es war in unseres Lebensweges Mitte / Als ich mich fand in einem dunklen Walde / Denn abgeirrt war ich vom rechten Wege.”) Und sein Track Hollow ist mit Sicherheit ein perfekter Begleiter für solch einen Streifzug durch den finsteren Wald. Well, this is a deliberate blissful change of pace from the hell I may have just put some
of you through :P A brand new track from chill beat maker extraordinary Selva Oscura.
Good god this man knows how to make me get down on my knees and beg for the beat to drop. EVERY time he gets me with this, Selva truly understands the concept of climactic structure. He builds and builds and then lets it all go like a rainstorm of colorful 808s. Over the course of the summer I binged on Selva Oscura’s As/Is/Was so hard I almost overdosed, I had to give it a rest until he released this track yesterday.. I simply HAD to relapse.
“Dont Just” is a flooded ballroom of brilliant disco balls that spin in unison for roughly 4 minutes then suddenly stop… You stand knee deep in your own bliss in utter silence for a moment, then start this luscious track all over and get this wet ballroom bumping all over again.

Here’s another artist that I’ve kept my ears on lately and just a few days ago he dropped an fresh track for all of us. Selva Oscura is the moniker of Ray Levinson, a young producer currently signed to Chill Mega Chill who excels in making gorgeous ambient chillwave beats. His first ep AS/IS/WAS dropped in June of last year and now Levinson is at work on a debut album which will be titled REFRACTIDES. “Taste Water, Glow Blue” is the first taste of that and if it’s any indication of what will be heard in the future than I’m preparing to be dazzled once again. The beats are lush and crisp with a slight groove that compliments the glowing electronics amazingly. I get the feeling that I’m floating through a crystal blue ocean with the breeze moving just right and without a single care in the world. I’d highly recommend headphones against speakers for this one and you may want to play it a few times to perfectly grasp the feel.
