Scott Lively gets his day in court.

washingtonpost.com

Is there anything extremist right-wing preachers won’t blame on LGBT people? After the Newtown shooting, James Dobson listed tolerance of gay marriage as one of the reasons God’s punishment was directed at a bunch of first graders. And who can forget theclassic Jerry Falwell moment, blaming 9/11on “the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle….”

It’s easy to laugh at wingnuts, but they have millions of followers and their hate, in the name of some perverted concept of God, gives moral cover to the queer bashers and bullies everywhere.

OnMonday, we’re going to be face to face with one of them, Scott Lively, in a courtroom in Springfield, MA. If that name isn’t familiar to you like Falwell’s or Dobson’s, that’s because Lively’s unique contribution to this anti-gay agenda is his persecution consulting in other countries, most notably Uganda, where he brags he is known as the “father” of the anti-gay movements.

Many Americans have heard of the infamous “Kill the Gays” bill inUganda, which has been introduced in several parliamentary sessions since it arose out of an anti-gay conference that Scott Lively headlined in 2009. But the day-to-day reality for LGBT Ugandans is already violence, death threats, severe discrimination and oppression. Meetings of LGBT activists are raided and shut down, and advocates have been arrested for exercising their rights to speech, assembly and association. LGBT Ugandans’ advocacy, indeed their existence, is already criminalized.

No one has done more to orchestrate this situation than Scott Lively. Since 2002, he has worked systematically to strip away human rights protections from LGBT people in Uganda and elsewhere around the world, to silence them and make it impossible for them to organize and defend their rights. While he peddles the usual, age-old lie thatLGBT people are pedophiles in order to deliberately provoke the rage that feeds the growing repression and violence, he combines that myth with a new twist, thatgays were also responsible for the Holocaust and that Hitler’s Germanyis what can happen when a gay movement grows unchecked.

But this case isn’t simply about Lively’s “hate preach.” He long ago moved beyond “mere” hatemongering when he became a kind of persecution consultant, strategizing with influential leaders and cohorts in other countries about ways to further silence and remove LGBT people from basic protections of the law,in particular by criminalizing their advocacy. Persecution, defined as the “severe deprivation of fundamental rights” on the basis of identity, is a crime under international law; to be exact, it’s a “crime against humanity.” This deprivation of fundamental rights of LGBT communities is exactly what Lively aims to bring about.Under U.S. law, foreign citizens who are the victims of crimes against humanity can sue American perpetrators of such crimes. And soSexual Minorities of Uganda (SMUG) is suing Scott Lively for persecuting them. Staff fromSMUG and other LGBT advocates who have suffered persecution —arrests, raids, and other severe deprivations of basic rights —will be there on Monday, when the Center for Constitutional Rights will have the honor of representing them in court.

If you happen to be in the Springfield area on Monday, join us in court that day and at a press conference outside afterwards. Wherever you are, though, you can follow the day’s events on Twitter -@theCCRwill be live tweeting the event using the hashtag#StoptheHate. Every queer person in America can help expose what Scott Lively is doing by retweeting the news from court and by letting their friends know about this case.

The theology of hate, which blames LGBT people for disasters, natural and man-made, for the destruction of the family and everything in between, has to stop. And it won’t stop if LGBT advocates continue to be denied their fundamental rights to express themselves, to associate and assemble, to defend and assert their basic human rights. It won’t stop if plans like Lively’s are allowed to proceed. Religion has often been misused as a justification for maintaining inequality and denying the humanity and dignity of others. Persecution by political forces using the Christian religion is not a new tactic, from the Inquisition to the Salem Witch Trials, but in the 21st Century we have laws against it and it’s time to hold the perpetrators accountable.

Gays Blamed for History's Biggest Natural Disaster — Noah's Flood

advocate.com

“The last straw for God before he brought the flood was when they started writing wedding songs to homosexual marriage,” says right-wing minister Scott Lively.

BY LUCAS GRINDLEY

By pastor Scott Lively’s history of the world, wedding songs at gay marriage ceremonies caused the great flood that had Noah escaping in the ark. That’s the latest theory he floated during a radio interview with the American Family Association, reported on by Right Wing Watch. But really, it’s hard to know what Lively had in mind when he said in a recent interview that “the last straw for God before he brought the flood was when they started writing wedding songs to homosexual marriage.”

Lively is the focus of a first-of-its-kind federal court caseSexual Minorities Uganda v. Scott Lively, in which the American evangelical is accused of conspiring to persecute LGBT people in Uganda. That country’s LGBT activists have been fighting the “Kill the Gays” bill, for example.

See if you can discern Lively’s logic about how gay people caused Noah’s flood here: “We need to remember that in the time leading up to the flood what the rabbis teach about the last straw for God before he brought the flood was when they started writing wedding songs to homosexual marriage and Jesus said that you’ll know the end times because it will be like the days of Noah,” Lively said, according to a transcript published by Right Wing Watch. ”There’s never been a time in the history of the world since before the flood when homosexual marriage has been open and celebrated, and that’s another sign that I believe that we’re close to the end.”

Lively went on to speak directly to pastors who were listening the to the radio show, warning that they face personal losses for opposing LGBT people while also encouraging them to be steadfast. “We’re entering into a time in which standing for the truth of God is going to cost you more than just a few people walking out of your congregation and the temptation to compromise with the world, especially on this issue,” he said. “I think this is the issue of the end times, homosexuality. It’s present, if you do a careful investigation of all the scriptures dealing with this from the beginning and all the way to the end, God is painting a very clear picture that this represents the outer extent of rebellion against him in a society and the last thing that happens before wrath comes.”

AFA’s biggest radio mouthpiece, Bryan Fischer, added Wednesday that natural disasters are all sent by God, of course. “Here’s the thing to remember about any disaster. It is always a call on the people of a land to repent before God,” he said on Wednesday. “God knows when the nation needs a corrective influence.”

Police arrest manager of Holy Grounds Coffee House -- operated by anti-gay pastor Scott Lively -- as unregistered sex offender

masslive.com

A local man who served as manager of the Holy Grounds Coffee Shop on State Street — a cafe operated by anti-gay pastor Scott Lively that serves free coffee and offers conversation to teenage visitors — is a sex offender from New York who was imprisoned for the sexual abuse of a 10-year-old girl in 1995, according to police.

Police detectives on Thursday arrested Michael Frediani, 38, of 453 State St., for failing to register as a Level 2 sex offender in Springfield. He was living in an apartment above the coffee house.

He was being held at the Springfield police lock-up, said Sgt. John M. Delaney, a spokesman to Police Commissioner William J. Fitchet.

In New York, Frediani is listed as a Level 3 sex offender, defined as most likely to repeat an offense.

Frediani had identified himself as “Michael Free,” when he was interviewed last Friday by The Republican at the coffee house. At the time, Frediani said he was a “volunteer manager” at the coffee house, assisting the owner, controversial pastor Scott Lively.

Frediani said then that he is a Born Again Christian and a “minister of Jesus.”

Frediani moved to Springfield on Jan. 1, from 2119 Northampton St., in Holyoke, and failed to register as a sex offender, as required by law, Delaney said.

In New York, Frediani was convicted of sexual abuse in the first degree and aggravated sexual abuse in the second degree in 1996.

The charge relates to an arrest by police in Canandaigua, N.Y., in 1995 in which the victim was a 10-year-old girl. The description of the offense was “deviate sexual intercourse.”

He was sentenced to two to four years in state prison, serving at the Midstate Correctional Facility from September of 1996 to February of 1999, according to Carole Weaver, a spokeswoman for the state’s Division of Parole.

The coffee house drew criticism last week from some city and school officials, in part because of concerns that truant students were visiting the site during school hours. Lively, pastor of Redemption Gate Mission Society, has criticized media reports, which he says falsely portray him as a gay-bashing, hate-mongering activist.

Frediani said he has managed the coffee house for Lively and offered the visitors free coffee, tea, hot chocolate and “anything they want.” He estimated that as many as 30 youth have been in the coffee house at one time.

“I talk to all the kids,” Frediani said. “We have a place that is safe.”

“The presence of God is here right now,” Frediani said Friday. “I invite God to touch them and he does.”

While he might ask for a donation of $1 for a coffee, the youth “not to worry” if they do not give a donation, he said.

Earlier this week, Lively said he had reached agreement with a vice-principal at Commerce not to allow students to congregate at the coffee house during school hours.

"Christian" Right-Wing Homophobic Pastor Blames Noah's Flood On "Homosexual Marriage Songs" [TW: Homophobia, Anti-Gay Bigotry]

rightwingwatch.org

Pastor Scott Lively yesterday in an interview with Sandy Rios of the American Family Association warned that homosexuality “is the issue of the End Times.” According to Lively, the advance of gay rights will lead to the persecution and killing of Christians like in the early days of the Church and is “another sign that I believe that we’re close to the end.”

He argued that “the last straw for God before He brought [Noah’s] Flood was when they started writing wedding songs to homosexual marriage” and said homosexuality “represents the outer extent of rebellion against Him in a society and the last thing that happens before wrath comes.”

Lively: We need to remember that in the time leading up to the Flood what the rabbis teach about the last straw for God before He brought the Flood was when they started writing wedding songs to homosexual marriage and Jesus said that you’ll know the End Times because it will be like the days of Noah. There’s never been a time in the history of the world since before the Flood when homosexual marriage has been open and celebrated, and that’s another sign that I believe that we’re close to the end.

Rios: You know Scott you’re talking to thousands of the people across the country and some of them are probably pastors. What would you say to pastors out there who are facing, you know they’ve come up with these issues, these issues have come across their knowledge, they can’t escape it, whether it’s domestic partnerships or its benefits for homosexuals or whatever and it’s hurdling toward gay marriage in every state, what would you say to them by way of preparing themselves and how they should respond?

Lively: It’s time to adopt an apostolic mentality as Christians and to look to Revelation. How did they prevail? They prevailed by the blood of the lamb, the word of their testimony, and I think is most important, they did not love their lives unto death. We’re entering into a time in which standing for the truth of God is going to cost you more than just a few people walking out of your congregation and the temptation to compromise with the world, especially on this issue. I think this is the issue of the End Times, homosexuality. It’s present, if you do a careful investigation of all the scriptures dealing with this from the beginning and all the way to the end, God is painting a very clear picture that this represents the outer extent of rebellion against Him in a society and the last thing that happens before wrath comes.

More from the Leviticus Lobby: Scott Lively Applauds Uganda (Again)

“In March of this year I had the privilege of addressing members of the Ugandan parliament in their national assembly hall when the anti-homosexuality law was just being considered. I urged them to pattern their bill on some American laws regarding alcoholism and drug abuse. I cited my own pre-Christian experience being arrested for drunk driving. I was given and chose the option of therapy which turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life. I also cited the policy in some U.S. jurisdictions regarding marijuana.

“Criminalization of the drug prevents its users from promoting it, and discourages non-users from starting, even while the law itself is very lightly enforced, if at all. Additionally, I urged them to actively promote the marriage model in their schools as a form of inoculation to the anti-family messages flooding their country through Western media.  All of my suggestions were ignored (despite which fact I am being blamed for the proposed law as written by certain major media outlets and the ‘gay’ blogosphere.) Nevertheless, I commend the courage of the Ugandan people.” - Hate group crackpot Scott Lively, who adds that he now hopes Uganda removes the death penalty from the proposed bill he inspired. Because prison and forced reeducation camps are what Jesus would want.

More from the Leviticus Lobby: Scumbag Scott Lively Says Satan Founded the Boy Scouts for Man on Boy Sex

“Many pundits are weighing in on the decision by the Boy Scouts of America to allow open homosexuality into the organization.  I, for one, am not surprised. It is not generally known, but the youth hiking and camping movement we know today in America as the Boy Scouts, has its roots in pederasty.  Pederasty, also known as Man/Boy Sex, is the overlapping common core of the now open male homosexual and still hidden male pedophile communities.  It involves primarily sexual relationships between adult men of any age and boys roughly from age 7 to 17.  It is the most common form of homosexual relationship in history and the means by which a great many young men are recruited into a life-long homosexual identity.

It shouldn’t surprise anyone that pederasts naturally gravitate to all-male societies. Consider the Roman Catholic priesthood.  Look at their list of victims and you will see that the priesthood scandal was not about pedophilia, but pederasty, a form of homosexuality.  The Boy Scouts of America is no different, except now the organization itself will do most of the work of recruiting the victims, and is also likely to try to cover up all evidence of the problem so as not to admit their policy change was to blame.”Scott Lively

This comes from the piece of shit  man and “Christian” who went to Uganda and started the “Kill the Gays”movement  there and who hired a KNOWN child molester to work with kids and live above his cult recruitment – I mean “coffee shop” in Massachusetts.

Ugandan Gay Rights Group Sues U.S. Evangelist

nytimes.com

Sexual Minorities Uganda said that Scott Lively conspired with local leaders to create hysteria that resulted in persecution of gay Ugandans.

This is a big deal. Those of us paying attention have known that Scott Lively and a lot of evangelicals of his ilk have been directly involved in the legislation of the problematic “Kill the Gays” bill Uganda has been  raising concern over. Frustratingly, nobody’s directly tied them to it in any legal way before now. Especially given that Lively’s research (Especially about the Pink Triangle) is particularly unfounded. Doesn’t stop them from pushing what becomes more and more obvious is a internationally focused, incredibly political attempt to suppress and prosecute homosexuals in a way they couldn’t on their own soil. Everyone needs to know about this.

Scott lively case starts Monday

joemygod.blogspot.com

This Monday the case of Sexual Minorities Uganda Vs Scott Lively will begin in a Massachusetts federal court. The suit alleges that Lively committed crimes against humanity in his campaign urging Uganda to implement harsh persecutions of LGBT people. The case is the first-ever sexual orientation-related suit brought under the Alien Tort Statute, which is described as a “powerful legal tool that allows foreign victims of human rights abuse to seek civil remedies in U.S. courts.” Sexual Minorities Uganda is being represented by the Center For Constitutional Rights. Lively will be defended by the anti-gay hate group, Liberty Counsel.

Today at the Leviticus Lobby: Following Boy Scout Victory, Gay Activists Will Launch a 'Blitzkrieg Against the Church' (video)

rightwingwatch.org

On his radio program yesterday, Bryan Fischer brought on Scott Lively to bolster hisassertions that scouting has always been used as a “major homosexual recruiting effort” going all the way back to Nazi Germany.

After ten minutes of pseudo-historical nonsense about how the German Wandervogelwas designed to “revive the Greek ideal of pedagogic pederasty” and now the Boy Scouts had fallen to the same agenda, Lively declared that the Scouts had represented “the last secular resistance to homosexuality in our culture,” which means that, within the next year, there is going to be ”a blitzkrieg against the Church like we’ve never seen before” which will seek to wipe out the last remaining opposition to the gay agenda.

Listen to liar Lively who, by the way, is facing prosecution for crimes against humanity for his support of Uganda’s ‘kill the gays’ bill.

Scott Lively Claims Credit For Current Wave Of Repression In Russia

joemygod.blogspot.com

“On Jan. 25 of this year the Russian State Duma, its highest legislative body, voted to prohibit homosexual advocacy to children, following the enactment of similar legislation in a number of Russian cities, including St. Petersburg and Novosibirsk (the capital of Siberia). Go Ruskies! I am personally very pleased to see this development, having called specifically for legislation of this sort in my speaking tour of the former Soviet Union in 2006 and 2007. During that tour, which began in the Russian eastern city of Blagoveschensk and ended in St. Petersburg, I lectured in a variety of venues including numerous universities, churches and conference halls, and met with numerous government leaders at various levels of influence.

“My pro-family message was warmly welcomed by the people of each of these countries, and to varying degrees the homosexual agenda has been slowed in all of them. To my knowledge the only two Eastern European countries to pass pro-family legislation designed to curtail the spread of homosexuality are Russia and Lithuania, which are coincidentally, the only two countries to whose people I wrote an open letter.” - Hate group leader Scott Lively, writing for World Net Daily.  Lively is widely considered to be one of the primary forces behind Uganda’s plan to execute homosexuals. He is presently being sued in a Massachusetts civil court for crimes against humanity.

There’s the real export when it comes to international policy and Right Wing Arch Conservatives. Lively and Uganda have been long linked by the human rights atrocities stirred up by his anti-gay propaganda  He hasn’t exactly been less glib about his involvement there either. Here he pretty much gloats about how he’s made life politically and otherwise less safe for a group of people he doesn’t like in a country he doesn’t live in all the while pretending he still has the moral high ground.
