No-Shampoo Method

Have you guys ever heard of it?

I’m the type of person that is really into natural stuff, because it’s so much better for you and your body, so a while ago I started using all natural shampoo. What I didn’t realize is that even with natural shampoo, frequent shampooing disturbs the delicate balance on your scalp. The truth is, our hair and scalp can go months without a wash, and still be clean. This goes for our bodies, as well. However in this society, ‘cleanliness’ is given a new face. ‘Staying clean’ is seen as bathing regularly (at least once a day) and some women wash their hair every day, or every other day.

Once the shampoo is no longer stripping the hair of its natural oils every day, the scalp must learn to scale back production of those oils. Those of you who have troubled scalps (itching, flakes) and troubled hair (dry, brittle, oily, frizzy, etc.) should definitely give it a try.

I must admit, I’m on week 3 and I’m struggling. I’m down to shampooing once a week, and in the beginning, this process is hard. Ladies, get ready to wear your hair up constantly. My scalp is itchy and flaky, and my hair is oily. However, I do want to note that my hair is also a lot softer than it’s been in a long time.

If you do try this method, just know that this icky phase shall pass. Your scalp and hair are just trying to find a balance, and your scalp is trying to make up for years and years of shampooing.

If you do try it, shoot me a message and let me know how it goes for you!

Layers of Your Scalp

An acronym for the layers in your scalp is amusingly, SCALP:

  • Skin
  • Connective tissue (Dense)
  • Aponeurosis
  • Loose connective tissue
  • Periosteum

Well that is one less thing to worry about I guess. Next concept!

# 81

I have a weird habit of scratching and picking at my scalp.

I don’t know why I do it. I don’t start doing it in public like if I’m mental or have ticks or fleas or something (I don’t…), but I tend to do it when I’m by myself. Sometimes I do it until it bleeds or it gets sore.

I actually have no idea why, but oh well. We are all odd in some way.
