Academy award winner Marion Cotillard "not impressed" with co-star Joseph Gordon-Levitt
youtube.comUh oh! It appears that not all was well on the set of Christopher Nolan’s 2010 hit film Inception and that some of the bad feelings carried onto the set of his upcoming film The Dark Knight Rises, the concluding chapter in Nolan’s Batman franchise. French actress and star Marion Cotillard may have won awards for her acting, but several sources on the sets of both films say that not even she was able to mask her contempt for her costar.
“Joe was constantly trying to impress her with his knowledge of France and French cinema,” says one source. “He was constantly name-dropping French places and directors, such as (Jean-Luc) Godard and (Jean-Pierre) Jeunet, and he would only speak to Marion in French, despite her requests to speak in English to improve her proficiency in her second language.”
Another source claimed that Gordon-Levitt demanded rewrites from director Nolan on both films, asking for scenes between his character and Cotillard’s.
“Chris (Nolan) would always put his foot down,” says the source. “He refused to adhere to Gordon-Levitt’s demands.” In fact, at one point during the Inception filming, Nolan was close to recasting the role of Arthur, offering it to several other young actors including Michael Pitt and Topher Grace.
“Marion just did not like him,” reveals another source. “She would always talk about how off-putting she found him and she felt that he had a strange fetish for her because she was French. She says that she felt he never took her seriously and would only ask her what it was like to grow up in France.”
