I was wondering if you knew how the back of the Robe a la Francaise is created? Like is it a piece of the actual skirt that is just cut longer to be draped from the collar or is it a separate piece that is sewn on? Thanks for your help.

The back panel is composed of one single piece of material which extends from the shoulders to the hem, and is pleated into box pleats. There is usually a panel of lacing sewn into the lining under the pleats which can be adjusted to be sure the side-backs of the bodice hug the torso and waist. The bodice fronts and skirt fronts are cut separately.
