20 September, 13
Mags stumbled, her ankle twisted, and the only thing that saved her from going down in the middle of the crowded street was Aleen’s grip on her arm.
“Sorry!” a dark-haired, olive-skinned man called as he turned toward them, walking backwards. “I didn’t mean to run you down like that.” Once she recovered from stumbling into Allie, Mags looked up at the young man who had bumped her on his way past. She wondered how he managed to not crash into anyone else.
“How did you mean to run into me?” she responded and he stopped abruptly, forcing the moving crowd to part around him as he waited for Mags to catch up. He blinked once and his gaze focused sharply on her face before he broke into a wide grin. He had a dimple on the left side of his mouth and crinkles at the corners of his black eyes even though she judged he wasn’t much older than she was herself. He didn’t answer her question, just saluted her and moved on, walking backwards a few more paces, still grinning, before turning to disappear into the crowd.
“What was that about?” Allie snapped her fingers in front of Mags’ eyes and Mags dragged her gaze away from the crowded street fair. It occurred to her that it was the second time Allie had asked the question. With one last glance toward where the slim figure had disappeared, she frowned. Something felt off. “What’s wrong?” Allie asked.
Mags looked down at her naked left wrist, the same side the dark young man had jostled, and then held her hand up for Allie to see. “That son of a bitch stole my bracelet.” It wasn’t anything fancy, just a thin gold bangle, but it was one of the few things she had that had belonged to her mother and it was gone. Allie’s mouth dropped open.
“We should report it to the Peacekeepers.”
Mags shook her head. “No. It’s really not worth it.” Even now, years after the end of a rebellion she had been too young to be a part of, Mags didn’t want to deal with Peacekeepers if she didn’t absolutely have to. He hadn’t taken her money or Allie’s and he hadn’t hurt either of them. Maybe if she saw him again, stealing from someone else, she’d report him. Or maybe she’d give him the thumping he deserved and take her bracelet back. The thought made her smile.
Throughout the rest of that day, Mags caught glimpses of her thief as he worked the street fair. It quickly became obvious that he stole from those who appeared to be wealthier than the average district citizen or from Capitol tourists, who were by definition wealthy or they couldn’t afford to be in District 4.
Once, while she and Allie watched a pair of dancers in the center of the town square, she spotted him on the edge of the crowd about twenty feet from where she stood; rather than watching the dancers, he watched her. Lifting her left wrist high, she pointed at it.
“I want it back!” she shouted over the music and hundreds of voices. His only response was a shrug before melting back into the press of people.
The sun was beginning to set when she and Allie made their way back to the quay. Allie had finally gotten word from her husband that the trawler he worked on was docking and he would meet her soon. Mags was tired, and didn’t want to be a third wheel between Allie and Etienne, so she planned to take her little boat and head back to her lonely home on Victor’s Island. They hadn’t even reached the quay when they heard the sound of running feet along the boardwalk, accompanied by angry sounding shouts.
Turning, Mags saw her thief, a pair of Peacekeepers on his heels as he pounded along the boardwalk. He tossed the sack he carried into the crowd and kept running, heading straight toward Allie and Mags, although it didn’t appear as though either her thief or the men who chased him had seen them. Making a snap decision, Mags picked up her skirts and ran toward her thief.
“Mags! What are you doing?” Mags didn’t answer Allie’s shocked question, just charged toward her thief. When she was close enough, she snagged his arm, nearly knocking them both over, and pulled him into an alley.
“What—?”
“Follow me!” She ran down the alley toward another side street, the young man following right behind. Rounding the corner, she headed for the wharf and, as soon as they reached the edge, she grabbed his hand and pulled him along with her as she jumped into the water and dragged him under the structure of the pier with her. Fighting the need to laugh, she held a finger to her lips. She heard shouting above, back in the direction where she left Aleen.

very well said!
Thanks guys! I was hesitant to say anything at first, but I felt like it needed to be addressed. It’s so insulting and I just wanted to speak my mind! I’m glad it doesn’t come across as rude.
You knit, too??? \o/ Anyway, the character I give you (just on loan, mind you, 'cause he's mine) for that meme is Finnick Odair. :)
I do! I’m making the cup cozy for StitcheryWitchery’s summer knit-along and it’s super fun!
Thank you for letting me borrow him. I will make sure he is returned in one piece.
OTP: Finhanna.
BrOTP: Finnick-Katniss
OT3: Finnick-Peeta-Johanna.
NOTP: Finniss? It that what it’s called?
Dune
Favorite Male Character: Farad’n Corrino
Favorite Female Character: Irulan Corrino
Least Favorite Character: Paul
Favorite Ship: Leto II/Ghanima (shush)
Favorite Friendship: Ghanima and Irulan, though my headcanon Farad’n and Irulan’s friendship is pretty epic.
Favorite Quote: “One of us had to accept the agony, and he was always the stronger”
Worst Character Death (if any): ALIA, how that was handled was the worst. Well also Chani because she died from childbirth in the FUTURE as the first wife of the Emperor of the Universe.
This made me so happy you have no idea Moment: In the miniseries when Irulan and Jessica hugged, in the books when Irulan ran away with Ghanima to escape Alia’s plots.
Saddest Moment: Alia’s death.
Favorite Location: Arrakis?

Man, cell stories are the *best* set-ups though as far as Im concerned. :)
They do tend to make people talk. (or have nookie if they’re in it together, but the first one was a parent-child therapy session disguised as a very long conversation, so there was none of that!)

Im sorry youve written yourself into a corner (a cell?), but omfg I am so happy about this.
YOU KNOW WHO’S FLIRTING. It’s reluctant and rather manipulative, but it’s flirting. :D
plaidslytherin replied to your post: writing…
Thats why when I wrote a cell scene into the werewolf big bang, Saul could climb up enough to see into the next cell. :P
oh, the flirtees can see each other - she’s the one who’s holding him prisoner.

When its right, its right. Just go with it.
It’s right, I even think it’s pretty good so far, it’s just … So. Much. Talking. I always fear excessively talky bits will bore people.
sabaceanbabe asked:
1. What kind of cell phone do you carry?
I have an iPhone 5. My old iPhone 4 crapped out on me two months shy of my upgrade date. Thankfully, I have a lovely coworker who happened to own a spare iPhone 4, which I used until I upgraded about 2 weeks ago. I just can’t seem to quit Apple.
2. What’s your favorite color and what things do you like that are that color?
Right now, I’m digging pink and red. I love my pink iPhone case and red sandals.
3. Who’s your favorite musical artist and what’s your favorite song by that artist?
It’s a three-way tie between The Beatles (“Across the Universe”), U2 (“With or Without You”), and The Bangles (“Eternal Flame”). I know, I cheated! ;)
4. What’s your favorite movie and what is it you like so much about it?
I love the original Star Wars trilogy. Mostly because my dad showed them to me when I was a wee kid, and its stuck with me since. Plus, they’re mondo awesome films! (May the Fourth is coming this Saturday!)
5. Tell me about your favorite kind of day.
Depends on my mood. I love rainy days, and staying in with my boyfriend to watch movies. And I also love days when we go on outings, when I can take my camera and snap some shots. Disneyland is perfect, for instance.
6. If you could spend the day with your favorite historical figure, who would that be and what would you do?
Shakespeare! We’d hang out at a pub somewhere, and talk about literature. I know, lame.
7. Do you drink wine and, if so, what’s your favorite wine?
I’m starting to drink wine more often now. I love Riesling!
8. What kind of car do you drive? Or, if you don’t drive, how do you typically get around town?
I drive a 2007 Honda Civic coupe.
9. What’s your opinion on dragons?
I am very pro dragon!
10. Do you like to go to concerts? If so, who would you most like to see in concert?
Yes! I really really want to see The Lumineers and The Civil Wars.
11. Do you have brothers and sisters? How many?
I have one younger brother. He’s good people.

1.) What’s your least favorite book?
UGH. There was this one we had to read in fifth grade that I’ve completely blanked on the name, but it was on the Revolutionary War and I just remember thinking I wanted to punch the main character in the face.
2.) Favorite actor and why?
Oooh, tricky. I’ll have to go with Leonardo DiCaprio for modernized because his range is incredible, and Gregory Peck for older Hollywood because everyone should aspire to be Atticus Finch, and Greg Peck was the closest to a real life Atticus we’ll ever get.
3.) What is your earliest memory?
Talking with my neighbors, butt naked, when I was three.
4.) What would be your dream vacation?
Spend a couple of days in NYC, then Chicago, then LA.
5.) Are you in love?
No.

Atlantic, when I went to South Carolina. I’ve also been in the Gulf of Mexico, if that counts?
7.) How old were you when you got a phone?
Fourteen.

AGH TOO MANY. For ones I’m friends with, I adore thetenthdoctorsbrillianthair, whiskeysnarker, thebreakfastgenie, sabaceanbabe, rebelkindergartener, and first-of-all-we-need-some-light :D
For just to follow, justlittleclassicfilmthings is my favorite thing in existence, and the girl who runs the blog (ohdinomartin) is a sweetheart :)
9.) What is your best subject in school?
I like English and History, although this year I sucked at both.
10.) What is your favorite era of history?
GOSH UH I find the fifties fascinating, but I also like the twenties and seventies? And I also like reading on the Civil War era so that too.

I don’t really pay attention to them, although congrats to them on the birth of their new daughter I guess?
