q: Why do you take pictures?
a: I am fascinated by the photograph’s ability to allow me to make a moment infinite. I think I have some sort of latent fear that I’ll forget things, so photography is a way for me to preserve memories. It also lets me express something…I’m not even sure what. I know a lot of photographers who have a specific intent with each photograph, a meaning behind it…I never have these with my photos. Sometimes I just get images in my head and I want to make them a reality. Those are the posed images I shoot. And then the candid shots are just things I see in life and want to remember. Everything around me is so incredibly beautiful and I just don’t want to forget any of it.
q: Whats the story behind the picture above?
a: That picture was shot on a camping trip I took with my friends this year. Near the campsite is an old abandoned resort that took advantage of the natural hot springs. Over time the resort failed and now it’s reduced to pretty much just a concrete platform and this little room that you see. Everyone paints and graffitis the walls. You have to hike a mile and cross a river to get to it. I took that picture with a disposable camera.
q: Favorite movies?
a: Darjeeling Limited, Everything is Illuminated, Kill Bill, No Country for Old Men.
q: Any new music to recommend?
a: There are a couple new Animal Collective tracks that are worth checking out. I’ve also been listening to St. Vincent’s new album a lot lately.
