can i talk about this scene for a second? it is one of my favourites in the movie because it’s right after Pitch has hit his lowest point and is now about to suffer the wrath of his own nightmares. i’ll have to make a gif ver later because it shows better, but just take a moment to look at their expressions. Jack is the only one that looks truly horrified by what’s happening. gosh really need a gif ver /runs off to make crappy gif ver
here:

okay, back to the point, Jack is the only one that looks horrified by this happening to Pitch. The others don’t look nearly as concerned; maybe surprised by the outcome working out in their favour, but not nearly as aghast as Jack. Had the others not have been there, i can’t help but wonder if Jack would have fought off the nightmares due to Pitch already being defeated. It just seemed cruel at this point in light of the situation. What was Pitch going to do to them? Hide under their beds and cackle? Now powerless and without control of the nightmares he’s not only suffering from his own loneliness, turmoil, and harsh defeat (and if you know his backstory, dreadful confusion), but now he’ll suffer far more injuries/abuse from something he can’t control anymore. It’s like pushing a guy down a flight of stairs and then the next day beating him with his own crutches.
i don’t know, i guess i just really like how concerned Jack looks here. That’s a hero Guardian to me. Someone who knows when enough is enough. Or maybe i’m reading too much into it, but this small 2 seconds really stood out for me. Way to go, Dreamworks, on this beautiful rendering and life-like work.
