Don’t Make This Common Mistake in Calculating Medical Expenses
howtofilefortaxreturn.comYour medical expenses may make up a large part of your itemized deductions. While a large amount of deductions can lead to a large income tax refund, it is important not to overstate your medical expenses by including medical reimbursements.
Tax time again. (yay...)
Hello again,
It is another year and what you should be getting soon are your W-2’s. Now here are a few questions….
How many of you get a refund?
How many of you pay a fee for the expedient delivery of your refund?
Now, I talk to people about how stupid it is to get a refund all throughout the year. Some of you get it. Others still walk blindly in your own ignorance. Out of the people who receive a refund, how many exceed a grand? 5 grand? 10 grand? I know some people that receive these amounts. It saddens me to see that money disappear as fast as they cashed it. How many of you would have peace of mind if you just learned to save that amount? How about a portion of that amount? So many of us feel that a credit card is a way of life. If we just learned a few new habits we could take charge of our lives and start winning financially. Now number one!
Emergency Fund
If you used your refund to stock up an emergency fund that will be a great start to your future. Bad things will happen to a majority of us. The water heater will break. The car will break. The roof will need repair. And so on and so on. Most of us from word of mouth from what I hear from fiends family and coworkers just throw that money away on vacations, electronics, and other unnecessary items.
Number 2. Budgeting
Assign your money and tell it what to do people. Many americans about 7 out of ten live paycheck to paycheck. Meaning if something bad happened like the cars transmission went out you will have a traumatic experience. It will happen to all of us at one point in time of our lives. learn how to put money aside for your life. Christmas is always in december. Birthdays never change. Valentines day is in february. Prepare every year for these expenses. Otherwise you are waiting for trouble to knock on your door.
Number 3. Stop receiving refunds.
Do you understand that getting a refund means you loaned the government an interest free loan all year. While the majority of you are using credit cards at about 18 percent interest and have no emergency fund established for the rainy days. Dave Ramsey points out that key point in his class. He says how you can get about 18 percent interest on your money starting now. And he then CUTS UP a credit card. Most of us use credit to catch our shortfalls. If you trained yourself to place money aside for all your future expenses it is really like making 18 percent on your money. Because you will not be paying that 18% interest to the banks. current interest rate average is around 15%. Okay now, let’s see how much your refunds are.
refund Amount per month giving to the government.
1,000.00 83.33
2,000.00 166.66
3,000.00 250.00
4,000.00 333.33
5,000.00 416.66
6,000.00 500.00
7,000.00 583.33
8,000.00 666.66
9,000.00 750.00
10,000.00 833.33
Now, if this is what you are getting for a refund. The next column is what you are throwing away to the government till the next year when they so graciously give you your money back. Can you imagine if you just learned how to assign your money. To know where it will go instead of wondering where it went. I know some people that get the 10,000 refund. That is over 800.00 they are giving up monthly to get it back later. I am sorry that is stupid.
Hopefully my point is taken. Learn to live without a refund. Be smarter with your money. You will thank yourself later. If you don’t know how to break even in tax time, talk to a reliable CPA. They will be able to help you.
If you have any questions please bug me in my messages. I will be happy to answer.
Until next time,
Richard

Refund would not save US Postal Service-GAO
* GAO says refund could endanger federal worker benefitsBy Emily StephensonWASHINGTON, Oct 13 (Reuters) - Returning up to $75 billion the U.S. Postal Service believes it overpaid into a federal pension fund would not solve the agency’s long-term financial problems and would force the government to pay billions more for worker pensions, the Government Accountability Office said on Thursday. The Postal Service has recently lost billions of dollars each quarter as consumers use email and pay bills online. The agency is trying to cut costs, looking at closing thousands of post offices and asking Congress for permission to end Saturday delivery.A refund would “provide some temporary relief from the pressures USPS faces due to declining volume, revenue and inflexible costs, but would not by itself address USPS’s long-term financial outlook,” the GAO said in its report. The government watchdog said it did not believe the Postal Service could cut costs fast enough for a transfer of funds from the pension fund to cover the agency’s debt and address current and future operating losses. The overpayment controversy stems from the 1970s, when the Postal Service was formed as an independent agency. The USPS and the U.S. Treasury Department agreed on a method for sharing workers’ pension costs, but the Postal Service has since argued its share of the payments was too large. The agency hoped the return of money from the Civil Service Retirement System would solve its financial problems long enough to allow it to cut costs and return to profitability.A consulting firm determined in a 2010 study for the Postal Regulatory Commission that, while the allocation of pension funds was legal, it did not match current actuarial practices.Postal worker unions have pushed for the refund in hopes it would prevent the agency from moving forward on a proposal to eliminate 220,000 jobs by 2015.The refund idea is featured prominently in postal overhaul bills offered by Democrats in Congress. Senate staffers have said lawmakers were waiting to see the report before acting on postal legislation.Republicans including Darrell Issa, whose House of Representatives committee will debate his postal bill on Thursday, have said a refund could increase federal government liabilities for workers’ pensions.GAO said transferring billions of dollars away from the fund would leave the government on the hook for between $55 and $85 billion dollars and could lead to pressure to cut pension benefits for federal workers.”The disagreement among the experts over the Civil Service Retirement System overpayment is significant enough that I believe it would be more prudent to set aside this question…to focus on the areas of postal reform where we have more consensus,” Senator Tom Carper, a Democrat, said in a statement.

Refunds Available for Reebok EasyTone or RunTone Shoes or Apparel

From the Federal Trade Commission (FTC):
The Federal Trade Commission, the nation’s consumer protection agency, charged Reebok with making claims about EasyTone and RunTone shoes that the company couldn’t support. According to the FTC, Reebok claimed that using these products would strengthen and tone leg and butt muscles.
To settle the case, Reebok has agreed to pay $25 million for refunds to people who bought Reebok toning shoes or apparel.

BlackBerry Offering Compensation with Premium Apps
RIM (Research In Motion) Have announced that they will offer Premium Apps to every subscriber who was affected by the outage that took out EMEA last week (10-12 October). The Apps are worth “more that $100”. I think this was actually a cheaper move to refund customers. Cellphone providers/carriers are forking out millions in ‘credit’ towards BlackBerry rebate, refunds & ‘goodwill’ yet RIM decides to offer App? Even though their app list is quite a good one, not everyone will benefit from them because they are all dependent on users actually downloading them, OS support, country support or carrier support. So the ‘$100’ worth of premium apps can actually be worth less than $20. Not everyone needs or uses the apps that are being offered. Carriers like Vodacom/Vodafone, MTN, Cellc & Virgin Mobile are offering ‘Free’ minutes and airtime/talktime credit to affected customers whether you’re on a prepaid or on contract.
The list of apps that RIM is offering are:
• SIMS 3 - Electronic Arts
• Bejeweled - Electronic Arts
• N.O.V.A. - Gameloft
• Texas Hold’em Poker 2 - Gameloft
• Bubble Bash 2 - Gameloft
• Photo Editor Ultimate - Ice Cold Apps
• DriveSafe.ly Pro - iSpeech.org
• iSpeech Translator Pro - iSpeech.org
• Drive Safe.ly Enterprise - iSpeech.org
• Nobex Radio™ Premium - Nobex
• Shazam Encore - Shazam
• Vlingo Plus: Virtual Assistant - Vlingo
RIM is also offering Business Clients one month free of technical support. Not sure this would be a HUGE benefit if you have in-house IT support.
