“And then to treat my nation like we don't know how to fight? We, the Lakota, who are responsible, the first nation, to ever militarily defeat the United States of America, on the field of battle, and Lawrence of the Plains has to teach us how to fight?”

—Russell Means on Dances with Wolves

I’m watching “Reel Injun.” This scene made me laugh. If you haven’t scene this documentary, this part was about a director telling an actor to say something in “Indian” and the actor went off script. This line made it into the movie since nobody ever bothered to translate what he said.

“Cree filmmaker Neil Diamond takes an entertaining and insightful look at the Hollywood Indian, exploring the portrayal of Native North Americans through a century of cinema”

“We're like the Energizer Bunny... The mightiest nation in the world tried to exterminate us, Anglicize us, Christianize us, Americanize us, but we just keep going and going. I think the Energizer Bunny must be Indian because he has that little water drum he plays. I always say the next time you have a Pow Wow, let the Energizer Bunny lead the Grand Entry and after a few rounds, then we can get together and eat him because we never waste anything; we share everything. ”

“I'm an Indian. What's a hippie?”
