Red Diamond Rattlesnake

Crotalus ruber

Crotalus translates into rattle, while ruber means red or reddish.

Fun Fact: Has some of the weakest venom in the rattlesnake world. It still causes massive tissue damage (necrosis) and blisters, bruises, and extreme pain.

Habitat: Chapparal of SW California (San Diego) to Baja California

Ecosystem Role: Helps keep rabbit, bird, and other smaller reptiles in check. Provides food for larger birds of prey.
