The Necessity of Reading Nooks

There is even no argument. One simply needs a reading nook. Or any horizontal place that one can use to lie down and read. When I was a child, we converted a storage room for my bedroom. It was the nicest and coziest place. Small with many windows and lots of lots of shelves to hold books and a reading lamp. I even had a small chest where I kept some of the books. It wasn’t anything fancy and I didn’t know a thing about scented candles and throw pillows back then, but I ended up in far more beautiful places. That bedroom was where I discovered Middle Earth and 221B. I really think I must have been the happiest and contented child back then.

So in honor of reading nooks and great literature, here are some designs that I wouldn’t mind applying in my own home.

A great way to save space under the stairs. Better than using it to imprison some poor orphan child who has secret wizard powers. via Furnish Burnish

How Tom Sawyer/Huckleberry Finn-ish. It would be a blast if behind those wooden panels is a secret passageway to the kitchen. via Desire to Inspire
