Everyone is in this debate about whether #RachelSayNo is a ship war or not.
Honestly, both sides are partially right, one side says its just about Rachel, the other side says it’s just about the ships. Really? Really fandom? I don’t think so, It’s about both. I hate the ship. I hate it because it destroyed 3 better, healthy, more romantic and more realistic ships so it could happen, (two of them twice).
I hate it because Finn is always an asshole when Rachel is involved, she brings out the worst in him, even when they’re just together, all those times we’ve seen Finn as a good guy is when he has been with Quinn, doing something for her or the baby or for someone else who isn’t Rachel. I hate it because he brings out the worst in Rachel, he brings out the stalker, obsessive, man-stealing, hypocritical, delusional bitch. (ignoring some of the selfish things she’s done that haven’t had anything to do with him like quitting cause of the solo and sending sunshine to a crackhouse.)
I hate it because they wouldn’t last out of highschool because they’re both going in seperate directions. I hate it because Rachel should be going to new york, she should be going on broadway and because Finn has no idea what to do with his life and is planning it around her instead of around something he actually wants to do for himself. High school proposals do not work. (Trust me, I’m an expert). I’ve been through it, I’ve watched it happen, I’ve seen people who got married young and totally fell apart.
I hate it because it’s been central to the show for 3 seasons where as all the other ships, either got limited runs or take a backseat. I hate it because it’s unhealthy, some girl threw herself at a guy with a pregnant girlfriend, purposely broke them up, then changed her mind about him when he still didn’t want her, then he did the same when she got a boyfriend. (rinse and repeat for season two).
I hate it because every moment they had that should have been special was just wrong. First kiss: cheating. First date: cheating. Duets: they haven’t won a single competition with a finchel duet. Almost first time: Selfish, bitch Rachel selfishly wanted to use him to be a better actress (side note: Finn fed a vegan meat.) Actual first time: Pity sex because Rachel didn’t have the sense to actually just reassure him (or she didn’t want to admit to him that he had a lot of options that didn’t involve her) and Finn didn’t have the sense to realise he could run Burts shop (Nice how the only person to actually understand Finn in the entire show is Quinn and it’s the ship they keep tearing apart. Even if I didn’t ship them I’d still see that as messed up.) Proposal: because Finn literally had nothing else to do with his life.
This is a messed up, unhealthy ship. There are so many god damn reasons for Rachel to say no. Some are for her benefit, some are for his benefit and some are just shipper reasons. But for fuck sake, almost every single reason is a valid one. I mean come on, Finchel is one of the main reasons that at least half of the fandom actually hates the show. If even the people that are watching your TV show hate it, you know you are doing something wrong. Rachel needs to say no and there are so, so, so many reasons for it. I think Finchel just needs to end, but I find it hard to care anymore, as long as she says no. Which I’m pretty sure she will, so thank fuck. I just needed to get things off my chest after they ruined an episode that I actually enjoyed for once. I liked the entire episode up until that final scene.
Acceptance
fanfiction.netThis is a very realistic portrayal of why Rachel should say no to Finn. Rachel will be held down by Finn, I’m more sure of it now. As the story says loosely, exchanging your dreams for ‘love’ only sound romantic when you’re seventeen. But when you’re twenty-six and divorced, pursued by the ghosts of ‘might have been,’ it’s just pitiful. Just take a peek, guys. :)
Lea Michele, Rachel Berry, and RIB
Looking at Lea’s Facebook page, it occurs to me that she’s been posting more and more inspirational things about pursuing your dreams and working hard to achieve them without being held back by boys or naysayers. Oftentimes these posts are in direct contrast to Rachel’s actions on the show, and that’s something I’m proud of her for doing. She seems to disagree with the way Rachel is being written as totally dependent on Finn, and I think she wants to make sure that her fans and all the real-life Rachel Berrys out there who were inspired by Rachel’s drive and ambition don’t try to emulate that kind of behavior.
If Rachel gives up everything every time Finn has a bad day, can you imagine what they’ll be like in the future?
