This nice little study shows that declarative memory is necessary for keeping up a common ground. This makes sense to me because episodic memory, or the memory of an event, is part of declarative memory. But knowing that people who only have procedural memory, or the memory of how to do things, cannot form a common ground is interesting.  My guess is that, because it takes much longer to form procedural memory (such as a skill), a common ground could be formed given enough time.
