Jonathan on why he shoots film:

“I’ve shot film from day one.  Attempted to convert to digital a couple times, but have stayed 100% film throughout my whole career.  I shoot film for a myriad of reasons. The main reason is the look.  I love the images I can get straight out of camera without manipulation on my end.   I also shoot film to minimize my time behind a computer.  I’m a husband and father of 6 kids 9 and under and shooting film gives the the ability to do what I love and still have a family life.  I’m a photographer, not a digital editor.  Also, I love the mindset that comes with shooting film.  I’m not burning through rolls and rolls of film at assignments or when shooting personally.  When I take a shot, I take one and move on.  It really slows me down, makes me very deliberate in how I compose and when I hit the shutter.  I’ve shot mostly weddings for the span of the last 13 years and am making a move towards more commercial/lifestyle and families.  I shoot a ton of personal work of my travels and my family.

Film Photographer Spotlight: Christopher Lange

Name: Christopher Lange
Age: 22
Location: New York
Photographing For: 7 years

Cameras: Leica M2 & M6, Hasselblad 500 series, Nikon F3 & F4.
Fav films: Tri-X, Plus-X, HP5+, FP4+, Neopan 1600, Delta 3200

Chris on why he shoots film:

“I grew up with film. My father is a former fashion photographer, and as such I was surrounded by cameras from a very early age. It was routine to have stacks of negatives, contact sheets, chromes, and Polaroids all around our apartment when I was a child. When I began photographing seriously for myself, it was with a Nikon D70, but two years later, while living in Finland for a year, I bought a roughed up Nikon F3 and Nikkormat and never looked back. At this point in time I choose to use film simply because it is simple, effective, and allows me to achieve the exact aesthetic that I prefer in my photographs. Love is a good glass of scotch and a pocket full of Delta 3200 for the  lonely night time hours.”
