the women & gender studies curriculum at my university is incredibly frustrating. its mostly western feminism, with no regards for what poc did before 1st wave or what went ignored by mainstream white feminists.

Yeah, I mean after I’ve taken this Social Justice class at school, I’m not looking forward to what else they have to offer.

I wanted to stay here this summer but I have nothing to do nor any internships being offered anywhere. Might as well go to India.

How do I deal with a privilege-denying significant other?

Ask pointed questions. You know that whole “how did you know when you were straight?” questionnaire? Or even the “what do men do to prevent themselves from getting raped?” Questionnaire? Things like that. Depending on the privilege (economic, racial, etc.), think about things that a privileged person would take for granted. Then think about what a non-privileged person would take for granted. Then ask your significant other those pointed questions.

If that doesn’t work, dump hir’s ass.

“You know me. I lose interest like a Bond girl loses her characterization.”

@claire bb

oh my god allegra did you seriously

just reblog some crazy in depth speculation about Tom Bombadil

i love you right now

And make a Pokémon joke while I was at it!

I used to be a heavy-duty LotR nerd. Like actually sitting there in 8th grade and trying to write in Sindarin and/or Quenya -level nerd—which actually doesn’t mean much in hindsight since every fanfiction author started trying to do that for their creepy elven self-inserts after the first movie came out, so I’ll use a different example

I was more of a challenging my favorite English teacher to regular “Who knows more about the history of Arda-offs” -level nerd. There. That sounds better than coming up with a beautiful name for my original half-elven daughter of Sauron do not steal

In fact, I’d say that I still am, albeit incredibly inactive in that fandom. True story: I drooled over Veronica’s Tolkien class because oh my god yes

Also sometimes when I need a boost I watch campy horror on Netflix. Instant actually has Night of the Comet, which is a fabulously 80s post apoc trip with two badass and resourceful valley girls (one of whom is a gamer nerd). It's funnier than it is scary and it's awesome seeing strong female teens who get shit done.

adds to my watchlist

rn usa network is having a ziv-a-thon (ncis) so i’ve been watching that

Recently fell in love with Delta Rae's "Bottom of the River" (badass vid too), Anais Mitchell's Hadestown (post-apoc depression-era folk opera based on Orpheus and Eurydice), Always into Janelle Monae, The Pierces, Melanie Fiona, Pink Martini. Do you have a specific genre you're looking to expand your collection in?

hadestown is SO GOOD!!! omg i love hades and persephone and the fates’ voices are so pretty and that whole album just makes me cry

umm as far as music goes just stuff you think would fit in with what i put on my music blog—power ballads, electroswing, good indie stuff, stuff that makes you shake your butt in your chair

it’s good that you want to be more considerate? and understanding. but I also wonder if shutting down to that kind of thing is a natural wall or defense mechanism that a lot of us women share.

definitely. i mean, lookit, i’m the one trying to alter my behavior to suit him. and that’s not necessarily a bad thing (especially if he’s disordered), but that’s also a product of female programming.

more than that, though, i’m protective of Mr L and highly judgmental toward people taking advantage of his kindness. if i remove myself from interacting with this guy socially then that leaves Mr L without my influence to help him be a little…tougher? maybe?idk.

Okay for a minute I thought this was a picture of Emilia Clarke and was like “Oh, I didn’t know Daenerys was a Florence fan”. Anyway, congrats!

Ahh she’s so pretty so that’s a pretty awesome compliment! It’s getting harder and harder for me not to cosplay her…

oooh! well please let me know if you ever need someone to beta/translate with that. Because I’m always here for people’s Russian language needs. Have you seen the Russian Winnie the Pooh?

Thank you! I don’t know how much Russian is actually going to be in the comic (it actually takes place in Germany; the father is just of Russian descent) but I will definitely come to you if I need help! Take a hike, google translate.

I don’t think so - I love winnie the pooh; do you have a link?

some people go out and party on summer nights

i have shipping wars centered around friends and tobasco sauce
