Sign upColleges Soak Poor U.S. Students While Funneling Aid to Rich
bloomberg.comU.S. colleges such as Boston University are using financial aid to lure rich students while shortchanging the poor, forcing those most in need to take on heavy debt, a report found.
“Colleges are always saying how committed they are to admitting low-income students — that they are all about equality,” Burd said in a phone interview. “This data shows there’s been a dramatic shift. The pursuit of prestige and revenue has led them to focus more on high-income students.”
No Health Insurance sucks in so many ways.
I’m trying to find a health clinic for people with no health insurance.
I’ve called 3 now.
The first one wasn’t accepting new patients again until June. Call again then, maybe I’ll be one of the lucky ones!
The second one wasn’t accepting period.
The third one was so busy they weren’t answering and after I waited in queue for 10 minutes I got shunted into the voicemail. Who knows if they will be able to call back, so I will probably have to call again.
If it was just going to be the cost of the visit, I’d go to my regular doctor and hope she’d give me a discount, but it’s going to be blood tests too and by the time that adds up, I’m guessing I’d be fucked.
My workplace is talking about laying off people because of the cost of providing insurance next year. Well. They have so much turn over, they won’t have to actually lay people off, but they think they will have to cut back one and half people.
Now, I’m wondering why they don’t just build it into their pricing. I’m not a genius but since EVERYONE is being forced to do this, there will likely be a small amount of inflation across the board, and so adding a buck to each ride wouldn’t really be so bad.
But I guess I’m just nuts. Also, no one asked me. Also, I’ve lost track of my original post topic again.
