A series of binaural recordings made with my DIY dummy head after making a few modifications. Flipping through some diagrams of the ear canal, I’ve discovered that the ear drum is in fact angled towards the bottom of the acoustic walls, and that the entire canal is actually angled upwards by a rough 20 - 30 degrees. With these findings in mind, I’ve been trying to tweak my rig to better simulate human hearing. See (hear?) what you think.

This is a track composed entirely of sounds from around my house. The sounds were recorded using U87 and NT1-A condensers through a Sound Devices 702, and sequenced in Ableton Live.

The recording is made using a moving custom dummy head fitted with silicon ears and binaural microphones, while the sounds are routed through 4 studio monitors that are positioned around the room. I wanted to create an immersive experience with this piece, and hope to release a video for it on YouTube in the future.”
