    Picture Feature(d): Phat Wong

Excerpt from Oodles of Noodles — And More by Teodoro Montelibano, Food + Wine Review section of Indulge October-November 2011

“I stepped inside the restaurant recently — was this, perhaps an upscale panciteria (noodle house) that opened in this part of Makati?”

Photos were taken by my phone’s retro camera app.

These were taken on the day of my Heima internship interview. We first had lunch in this place called Phat Wong (and yes, I did giggle at the restaurant’s name). The restaurant is so cozy. Their ceiling lamps were all different and all equally beautiful. I have a thing for old-world/antique lamps. Their food was good! I really loved their Phad Thai omelette and their best-selling salad, Shrimp, Pomelo & Young Coconut Milk and Lime Dressing. Oh man, that salad was heavenly. Hats off to Chef Ariel Manuel!

The interview, on the other hand, was just okay. I really felt my newbie-ness, but hey! At least I’ve tried! Besides, the experience of being in the store is so amazing. The store is so beautiful! Mix that up with their signature room scent and the lovely music and you can’t help but feel so relaxed. When I get my own apartment/condo, I want it to look and feel like this. <3

Tried out another artsy fartsy restaurant just around Makati, Phat Wong Asian Cafe.

While waiting for the food, you can check out the paintings on the wall which are also on sale.

We tried Deep Fried Shitake Mushroom Roll (@ P170)

Banh Mi Roll (@ P125) - Ham and chicken liver with cucumber, tomatoes, cilantro and pickled carrots wrapped in flat bread

The last dish we tried was a bit strange for me as I haven’t eaten anything like it before; their best-selling salad, Shrimp, Pomelo and Young coconut milk and Lime dressing (@ P270)

    Nonetheless, it tasted great! :)
