The thing about the PQ and Pauline Marois that makes me really mad is not that she’s French and it’s not that she wants to keep the French culture alive in Quebec; it’s her complete lack of empathy towards anyone differing from her and her culture.
Yes, in Quebec the French culture is a crucial part of everyday life and speaking French is great! But that does not mean that Quebec should be separate from Canada. The French culture of Quebec is not only crucial in Quebec but also a crucial part of Canadian history. French culture can live on, even if the Anglo population continues to flourish in Quebec. As an Anglo with a French background I still embrace my French culture. By segregating the French culture and everyone else in Quebec, it is only creating hostility. The different cultures in Quebec can exist along side the French. If Marois wants to strengthen French culture she should make is easier for immigrants to learn French by providing courses for them, instead of trying to keep out the immigrants and making it impossible for the French population of Quebec to learn English. By cutting off the French population from learning English, she is only trapping them in Quebec and taking away many opportunities.
So as I bash Pauline Marois it’s not because I think French is wrong, or because I dislike the French culture; I bash her because she has many racist and discriminatory tendencies and does not see how French and other cultures and perfectly co-exist within the province of Quebec (THAT IS A PART OF CANADA AND WILL STAY THAT WAY).
