DIY New Years Eve Party Hats!

image

Supplies:

  • 12x12 scrapbook/cardstock paper (1 sheet per hat)
  • Large Fuzzy Balls, hehe
  • Medium floral cone
  • Ribbon of any kind
  • Card stock for circle (I used pre-cut circles by Martha Stewart), 1 per hat

Not Pictured:

  • Velcro adhesive stickers
  • Double stick tape
  • Tacky Glue
  • Elastic string
  • Hole Punch

Step one:

Wrap paper around the cone to form the cone shape.

Step 2:

Once the paper is wrapped tightly around the cone, use a pencil to trace the base of the cone to form a template for the hat.

Step 3:

Use the pencil marking to cut the paper into the shape used to form the hats.

Step 4:

Wrap ribbon around the base of the floral cone to determine the length of ribbon needed to use on the base of the hat.

Step 6:

Wrap the cut paper around the cone to form the hat, hold one side of the paper tightly against the cone and glue* the free paper slowly wrapping it around the cone to form the hat shape. (Note: The glue slightly disformed the paper shape, so I used double sided tape for the other hats) This step is helpful with an extra set of hands! Continue this step until all of your hats are made.

Step 7:

Determine where your ribbon will wrap around the base of the hat (so that the ends of the ribbon meet and there are no gaps or overlap when you wrap the ribbon around the hat).

Step 8:

Write your celebration on your other card stock or pre-cut shapes. This particular hat is for New Years Eve, but these could be used for any celebration!

Step 9:

Add the velcro adhesive to the back of the pre-formed shape, then apply it to the hat. Double stick tape could also be used for this step. I used velcro so that I could reuse the hats for future parties. All I will need to do is simply apply a new shape and verbage to a different shape and add some a piece of velcro.

Step 10:

Add tacky glue to the top of the hat and apply your fuzzy ball.

Step 11:

Use a hole punch to each side of the hat and tie a knot through each hole forming the strap.

Step 12:

Party Time!

These hats weren’t easy as pie, and having another set of hands helped out tremendously. I love that these can be used repeatedly with simply swapping out the Happy New Year shape with something else.

Happy do it yourselfing!

Oh, and Happy New Year!
