Valentino: The Black Cape

On day one of Paris Men’s A/W 2013-14 FW, Valentino chose to show for the very first time in Paris instead of Florence. The collection was sleek and groomed with pieces varying in color, texture and print. Whilst I detest the fur jacket, which seems mismatched, the collection can generally be described as charming and my favorites were the opening few.

The men strode down the catwalk in classic, black, slim fit suits, whilst covering up with elegant capes and jackets that were injected with leather paneling. The femininity of the black cape is striking and mysterious and the black clutch used in all looks emphasizes the necessity for a good gentleman’s bag. Although perhaps too dainty for every day life the bag is sophisticated and although it is fragile carries a sauve, intelligent and businesslike air.
