Muse Monday {Straws}

It all started with a pack of paper straws. I had hit a creative roadblock and went to the kitchen to make myself a drink. Low and behold, when I reached for my favorite pack of straws, inspiration hit me! You never know what will inspire you, so always keep a look out! Even when it’s something as simple as a paper straw.

stamp making
Continuing with my stamp making obsession, I made some mini greeting cards, which are roughly half the size of business cards. These are just stamped sentiments on little slips of card stock. This time I documented the stamp carving process.
Step 1. Write/draw the image you want on the stamp. Trace over the image with a pencil until darkened, then flip over and transfer onto the stamp. This gets you the reverse image so when you stamp it looks normal.

Step 2. Begin carving. I first trace the letters with a finer blade.

Step 3. Continue carving until you have the image you want. I used a bigger blade to cut away the larger pieces of the rubber. Then back to the smaller blade to cut through some of the narrower parts.

Step 5. Clean and stamp.

It is actually pretty simple, it just takes a while to carve the stamp. It’s hard for me to not just zoom through the carving. I’ve done that a couple of times and I end up cutting into parts I don’t want to be cutting into and completely messing up the stamp. It just takes a lot of patience and careful small cutting strokes. I think it’s all worth it. I’m really satisfied with the end results.
One of my favorite stamp sites (and overall crafting sites) is Papertrey Ink, they have amazing ideas and materials. Their prices are very reasonable and it is really difficult for someone like me who has no self-control when it comes to craft supplies. They have amazing card stock, ink, stamps, and anything else you can think of when it comes to making cards. They also come out with new products every month, which is something I always look forward to.
Muse Monday {What I Wore}

A few weeks ago we celebrated three of my friend’s birthdays at one party. To make things easier, I decided to color coordinate their cards. My inspiration for the cards came from Jessica of What I Wore. Know her? If not, check out her blog here. I love her style and the way she re-works her clothes from her closet. She also sews a lot of them (so jealous of this trait!). Last summer I made my first two skirts because I was so inspired by what I saw her making on her blog. She’s also started a new blog - That’s Quirky, and it’s right up my alley because it’s a home improvement, cooking and lifestyle blog. I love it! If you’re looking for great ideas and inspiration, check her out.

Farm Fresh and Roller Skates

We celebrated our friend Lalo’s birthday this past weekend and it brought back childhood memories. It was a rollerskating party. Yep. You heard me right. When was the last time you went rollerskating? I honestly haven’t been since I was maybe 10. Sure, I’ve rollerbladed plenty over the years, but rollerskating? Nope. Can’t say I’ve done that recently. It took me a few laps around the rink to get my balance and groove on, but after that, there was no stopping me (did someone say disco?). I did pull myself off when the slow songs started (read my husband wasn’t about to break a leg trying to skate) and I found myself without a partner. Not that I minded. I was content sitting on the side lines people watching. It was an eclectic group to say the least. I will admit, I was surprised at the number of people actually skating (it was adult skate night).

Did I mention the theme was orange? It’s Lalo’s favorite color. The picture above isn’t great (it was my iPhone), but he’s wearing all orange. If you follow me on instagram (mplsgirl) you saw that I was also sporting bright orange jeans (sucker for a theme)
