Is being “conscious” and voting for Obama an oxymoron?
For the record being “black” and voting for any leader of the capitalist/supremacist/imperialistic government is a waste of time as far as race issues, but particularly I want to speak to my people about Barack Obama. President Obama personally is a great husband, father, and all around family man but what about his policies? Does the average Afrikan in America know any of them besides the more popular televised issues? Or do we just see the skin and it makes everything else bearable?
For someone claiming to be a Pan-Afrikan nationalist, black nationalist, or just conscious it should be hard for you think he has your best interest and not just the best interest of the majority of Americans which we know is a group we do not belong to. To be fair i know the president is supposed to help all americans(which usual translates to white america) but if that was the case why would so many of our people not notice he is making things no different for them than any other politician? Why would there still be shirts with him standing next to Martin Luther King Jr. on them when he has done nothing for “black” America? We should know no matter whom the face of the system is it’s still the same system, but yet most of us are still trying to fit in where we don’t belong and really believe that Democrats have our best interest. Can you name something they have specifically done for you? I’m sure you can name things they are trying to do for the LBGT community and for women (non afrikan women) and Hispanics but what about your people? Was the 99% protesting for your oppression or did major economic inequality finally hit white America and then they took it seriously?
Whether you are a decedent of an Afrikan slave, born in Afrika or in between you know that there is NOTHING that has plagued us more than having Afrikan blood in an imperialistic/colonialist/supremacist society and instead of creating our own destiny we’re letting what we desire and wish to be done drift away by saying “The president is black so he must have our best interest” as if we have never seen elitist black men with no intention of helping their people and only bring race up when its beneficial, or “it would be worse if a republican was in office” as if there would be a colossal change.
Is that really a good reason to vote, for the lesser of two evils? If you think so you might want to do some serious soul searching.
The president never speaks specifically about our issues unless he is forced to for example after the outrage over the death of Trayvon Martin, but he will willingly speak on other issues like gay/immigration/white women’s rights(i say white woman because if only black women wanted rights they would be ignored). He has spoken about the oppression of groups overseas and here in America to make you think some here have it so bad but never mentions his own people which belong to the longest running oppression in the very country he presides over.
Our awareness seems to have holes in it because one minute we are calling out the supremacist society and the next believing whatever propaganda it throws at us and letting leaders get away with anything based on skin color even if it’s not in our best interest.
And what about our lifeline called Africa?
I’ve taken a segment made by Asad from unitedblackamerica.com on what the a tiny bit the administration has done
“Obama has continued to fund and support activities that hurt Africa. Despite his Kenyan blood, he had no problems cutting funding to Kenya and other African nations. Just three short years ago, President Obama and the First Lady visited Ghana and hailed them as important trade partners. Then, as soon as he left, his Department of Commerce quietly closed its office in Ghana, shutting the country out of economic opportunities and trade relations with the U.S. All this, despite the fact that Ghana’s economy is booming. The same scenario played out in Dakar, Senegal and Angola.
Before President Obama authorized military intervention in Libya, the people in that North African country had jobs, food, electricity, running water, homes, free housing, and great healthcare. Blacks were treated with respect, given high positions in government, and volunteered freely to help Libya when the West came with guns a blazing. Now, thanks again to Obama, Libya has been bombed back into the stone age.
Black solders who fought for Libya are now being tortured and killed in inhumane conditions, and even put on display like animals,….Meanwhile, Obama hypocritically takes the stage and expresses outrage over the crisis in Syria and Iran. No outrage for Africa?”
And this is barely the tip of the iceberg with Africa so what are you voting to change?
I will touch on these issues many times but I must ask my people; Are you for the lessor of the two evils, or are you for YOUR people here and abroad?
Because there is no in between.
