1. How do they fall asleep? Wake up? Any daily rituals?
shepard falls asleep practically curled around garrus due to the heat he emits. the first time she did it, she fell asleep almost as soon as she made herself comfortable, and garrus has had to deal with it ever since. however, since garrus has odd sleeping patterns, she’s normally found curled up in a ball gripping a pillow. it takes a while for shepard to wake up, especially on her own. she normally lays in bed for about ten minutes or so before fully rousing herself. daily rituals aren’t exactly their thing. shepard and garrus do whatever they feel like when they’re both awake, which normally includes a bit of talking and teasing each other, along with, as garrus puts it, “rolling around shamelessly on the couch.”
3. Are they open about their relationship? How do they feel about public displays of affection?
in public and during work hours, the most affection the couple shows is holding hands. they like to keep things professional, but once the doors are closed, all conservation of their relationship is off the table. despite this, everyone knows about shepard and garrus’ relationship. it’s fairly obvious due to their teasing attitudes and lingering looks.
5. Nicknames? Pet names? Any inside jokes?
ooooh yes. garrus doesn’t approve of kida’s nicknames at all, mostly because she’s normally teasing him when she calls him by them. her favorite is garrbaby. there’s also garbear, suave turian bastard, and garroos. the newest addition to the bunch, thanks to her little drunk grunt, is pretty bird. pet names are something garrus stands a little bit more, mainly because he has his own. they occasionally call each other honey, but the mood has to be right. garrus calls shepard his angel, but not very often. he’s only said called her that to her face once during their time together. inside jokes are plentiful. there’s ‘calibrations,’ which is shared with everyone who’s ever served on the normandy under shepard, cheesy club music, dancing (this is more for garrus’ benefit), the cat vs. bird argument, and ‘popping the heat sink’ is a favorite.
16. Do they keep secrets? Lie? Cheat?
no. that’s one thing shepard is vehemently against. garrus is the person she’s most open with and it’s been that way since she recruited him on the sr-2. garrus feels the same.

4. First impression of each other? Was it love at first sight?
shepard though it was somewhat of an asset to have a turian on board, especially one that knew of saren’s evils and was a mean shot with a rifle. that’s the main reason she let garrus aboard. garrus knew of the famed commander shepard solely from vids, so he was a bit starstruck when he met her. asking to join her crew wasn’t exactly a spontaneous decision for him, but it was definitely a risk and he was more than happy when she said yes.
so, love at first sight? absolutely not. to be honest, shepard didn’t start thinking of garrus as something more than a friend until their little talk about “blowing off steam” together.it wasn’t until after the desctruction of the collector homeworld that she felt something stronger than friendship for the turian. the same cannot be said for garrus. he was utterly distraught after hearing of shepard’s death, slowly coming to the painstakingly obvious realization that he cared deeply for her. seeing her on omega soldified that, and it was one of the reasons he brought up the story about his little sparring session when she came to visit him in the battery.
9. Do they discuss big issues? Religion? Marriage? Children? Death?
they do, but not often. lets take religion. not being entirely religious herself, shepard brought up the topic of turian spirits one night, wanting garrus to explain it to her in depth. it’s something that intrigues her and she’s slowly grown fond of the idea.
as for the topics of marriage and children, they were never discussed. the only time it was brought up was by garrus right before the attack on earth. it wasn’t until years later that shepard brought the topic up again, talking about how she didn’t think a turian-human hybrid would turn out, but krogan babies were cute and that she “practically raised on anyway” to which garrus said that grunt didn’t count causing an uproar from shepard.
before jumping the omega four relay, death was an open topic discussed throughout the ship. the entire crew, including shepard and garrus, knew what they were heading into and what they might not come back from.
12. Is there a wedding? What was the proposal like? Any kind of honeymoon?
there’s a…semblance of a wedding. the proposal wasn’t like a typical proposal, no matter how much garrus wanted it to be. he and shepard had discussed getting married about a few years after the war ended when the galaxy was back to some form of normalcy and they were back together. he did, however, ask hannah shepard for permission (“oh, garrus, you’re already a part of the family. you know that!”) before proposing to the love of his life. the proposal itself was uncomplicated and perfect for the interspecies couple.
their honeymoon was more of a “hey lets just not leave our bed for a week.” easy, practical, and cheap.
17. What would make them break up? Would it be permanent?
shepard and garrus breaking up would be the start of a galactic apocalypse because nothing could break these two apart. and when i say nothing, i mean nothing.
26. How do their friends feel about their relationship? Their families?
their friends are nothing but supportive about shepard and garrus’ relationship. ashley admitted that she was confused at first, but, after seeing them together on missions, realized that the two were meant for each other. javik is the only one who finds it disconcerting, but most things do.
hannah shepard absolutely adores garrus. she finds him to be the perfect match for her daughter and couldn’t picture her with anyone else (which is something she often tells him).
27. Do they have kids? Grow old together? Split up?
shepard and garrus only have one child during their lives, and that’s the baby krogan they adopted named gaius vakarian. minor complications came with adopting him, such as various krogan angrily objecting that one of their own was going home with a human and a turian, saying that he wouldn’t be raised properly. it was ultimately up to wrex who vouched for the couple the entire time, along with bakara. they grow old together, watching their child grow into a proud member of society, becoming a part of clan urdnot and of aralakh company. shepard passes first and garrus follows soon after.
