“We do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that deep inside us something is valuable, worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch. Once we believe in ourselves we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight or any experience that reveals the human spirit.”

—E.E. Cummings

The capacity to which we hurt ourselves never ceases to amaze me. The things we think, the ways we cope, the amount of power we have over ourselves. But think about it: the people who hurt us the most are the ones we love the most. You know you've heard that somewhere before. Our best friends, our parents, our boyfriends and girlfriends, our brothers and sisters... they all have the ability to hurt us more than anyone else we know. Why? Because we love them the most. So I think the reason you have so much power to hurt yourself... is because deep down you really do love yourself. I know you're finding it hard right now and you're in a constant battle, but that love is there... and it will shine through, just never stop fighting for it.

“The fact that we know so much does not allow us to deny the thoughts we share with ourselves”

“The greatest happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved, loved for ourselves, or rather, loved in spite of ourselves. ”

—Victor Hugo

“It is in moments of illness that we are compelled to recognize that we live not alone but chained to a creature of a different kingdom, whole worlds apart, who has no knowledge of us and by whom it is impossible to make ourselves understood: our body.”

—Marcel Proust

“When we don't know who to hate, we hate ourselves.”

—Chuck Palahnuik, Invisible
