Like most people, I have my pet theories about why tumblr is such a clusterfuck of identities and petty politics, and why so many people on tumblr engage in bizarre and reactionary behavior well past their teenage years. Even taking into account the Greater Internet Fuckward Theory, tumblr culture is of a very specific vein; the vilification of skepticism, the rejection of human empathy, the furious masturbation to textbook psychology issues to the point where you lose touch with the real world. The hydra has many heads; otherkins, transethnics, sapiosexuals, transtrenders, white knights, and social justice assholes from all walks of life, but at the heart of it is that one word that makes this damn website so infamous: privilege.
Jenn here. Ugh. My mom just walked in on me during a past life regression. I was crawling around the floor slowly. She asked me what I was doing and I told her that she wouldn’t understand. She kept pressing and I told her I was experiencing past life regression. I told her about how I was a tortoise in my past life and about my tortoise memories. I ended up coming out as otherkin to her and had to explain what that meant. She got angry and told me to “grow up” and fill out some job applications online.
I don’t even know why she would tell me to fill out job applications when I’m going to be moving soon. I can’t wait to move. I am so sick of living with a bigotted alcoholic mother who is afraid of what she doesn’t understand.

These people identify (at least partially) as demons (and/or Satan) and no one has the right to tell them that that is not a valid identity. They need to stop shoving their religion down the throats of these characters.

They even killed the Demonkin kid, what the actual fuck? They actually killed the only (at the time) Otherkin character on the show. This is so fucked up.
This is why I hate TV and Christianity.

On Watchful-Entity
Hello again,
Sorry I have not been around! I can explain why, but first I have something important to say. Watchful-Entity has recently been banned, allegedly due to “harassment” and that’s not right! It may not seem like it but this is important to all of us!
As you may have guessed I have looked at the otherkin reaction to this and sadly, it has been rather disheartening. There has been some celebration that W-E is gone and I feel I should comment on that because it applies to everyone, not just internet subcultures!
When you are glad that someone who simply disagrees with you is gone, you are admitting that you want to live in a world where nobody can disagree with you. You are telling everyone “hey gang, I specifically want to only hear praise and agreement! I only want to hear about how right I am!” You are saying that you want only your opinion to be heard and that’s a bad thing to want! Without disagreement, there can be no discussion, no compromise! There can be no progress! When you only want your current worldview to be heard, you are saying “I must be right all the time, because moving away from my opinion is forbidden! Things should stay exactly as they are forever!”
My teenage self did not agree with all of my childhood opinions. Likewise, I do not agree with my teenage self and I’m sure when I’m old and gray I’ll disagree with my current self! If you can’t accept disagreement then you’re denying a very basic part of life!
Watchful-Entity’s banning is wrong and celebrating it just because they disagreed with you is also wrong.
You may say “hey Snowflake! You sound like you support W-E! But surely you know they deserved to be banned! People who were reblogged by them got some very nasty anon hate! That has to be W-E’s fault, isn’t it?”
No! It’s not Watchful-Entity’s fault. None of W-E’s tags ever commanded anyone to send threats. No tag even implied that threats were acceptable. You have every right to be angry at people who are sending you threats, but your grievances should be with them, not with a blog that merely reposted your words. If you are getting serious death threats, you should be going to the police. If you get a threat that genuinely scares you and your first reaction is to shut down someone’s Tumblr account, you either don’t take the threats as seriously as you think, or you need to reconsider your priorities!
If you are otherkin and you seriously wish to pursue the argument that it is W-E’s fault because they’re the one who reblogged you, remember this: I was reblogged by otherkin and I also received threats. By the same logic, all of those otherkin blogs are to blame for that anonymous hate, and thus would be subject to removal. It would not matter if you didn’t tell anyone to threaten me and it certainly wouldn’t matter if you even knew any of the people who told me die. You reblogged me, and then I was threatened. If I subscribed your logic, I would hold every last one of you accountable and all of you would be reported for harassment. But I don’t believe in that at all! And I would think that you wouldn’t either, now that you see it from that perspective. I certainly hope nobody starts reporting all of you, but if they ever did, I would defend you as well!
You may also say “but W-E stalked people! I don’t tag my posts and W-E still found them!”
I’m sorry for sounding harsh, but if you think that’s stalking then you clearly don’t know enough about the subject to talk about it! Your posts are public, and on the internet that means the whole world can see them! It doesn’t matter if you tag them or not. If they’re public, they’re public! It’s as simple as that. I never saw even one instance of Watchful-Entity digging up a private post. It sounds mean but the truth is that if you don’t want the world to comment on your posts, then don’t post them in public! Not everyone on Earth will agree with you and you have to accept that if you’re going to share your thoughts with the world, because that’s not going to change any time soon! After all, many otherkin disagree with my blog and I have accepted that.
Finally you may say “this doesn’t affect me, Snowflake! Watchful-Entity was a jerk so I should accept that Tumblr banned them.”
I feel that if you’re on Tumblr at all, this does affect you! Whether or not you consider W-E a jerk is irrelevant, I’m afraid. The truth is W-E operated entirely within Tumblr’s terms of service. They did not harass others, nor did they promote harassment. Their actions consisted entirely of reblogging others, which is the whole point of the website itself. And since they communicated purely through tags, you actually had to be the one to come to them if you wanted to see their comments! It was even more unobtrusive than most blogs. This means that even if you don’t like W-E, they should be allowed to stay because they followed the rules. If you are happy that someone was banned when they did nothing wrong, you should be ashamed of yourself!
So why does this concern you? Well if Watchful-Entity is banned just because someone didn’t like them, then that means you could be unjustly banned too! What if someone was offended that you support gay rights or that you are against cultural appropriation? I know some otherkin read this blog, so let me ask this: what if someone was offended that you had a different worldview from them? What if your claims of wolf souls and draconic instincts and magical curses were seen as a threat? Would you be okay with Tumblr removing your blog even though you have obeyed all the rules? I don’t think you would, and frankly I wouldn’t be okay with it either! This sets a bad precedent. Banning someone just because they made another person mad is not right and we should stand against that.
I am currently writing a letter to support@tumblr.com asking that they reinstate Watchful-Entity’s blog and I believe you should do the same. Yes it was just a silly little Tumblr account, but then again so are yours and mine! If you follow the rules then you should not be kicked off just because you disagree with someone. If you’ve ever enjoyed a W-E post, or even if you haven’t but you now understand how bad this is, then please let Tumblr know that it’s wrong to ban them! It might not do anything but you never know! Complaints got them into this mess, maybe support can get them out of it!
