Robert McDowell was there too. Nothing but guitars, nice and intimate, and the last Andy Hull/Kevin Devine solo show, at least for this tour. The three men rotated on stage, with all of them having solo time and every possible combination made between the three. They were best when they were all up there and sharing jokes with each other; the stage banter was hilarious. Kevin Devine was my favorite of the three, talking about imitating Jay-Z’s stage presence, writing songs on shrooms, and celebrities. This drunk chick next to me wouldn’t be quiet until Andy Hull told her to shut the fuck up, at which point everybody laughed at the fool. They did a joke song about Barry Bonds being on steroids and hitting “motherfucking home runs” and reworked some Manchester Orchestra songs to fit the setting, such as “I Can Barely Breathe”, to great effect. They made fun of some terrible bands at the 97x Next Big Thing festival going on across town and expressed their gratitude towards those who showed up to this instead. Other highlights include a preview of a new Manchester Orchestra song about a miscarriage and Hull and Devine’s first rap song (reminiscent of Flight of the Conchords). The show had a 32 song setlist; it just refused to end, which was good.
