Sign upJews Started Aids. Today I found Mike DeStefano
Listening to an old YKWD podcast that I hadn’t heard yet, “Me, Joe D and Hunter’s Stew” from 03/09/11, Bob and Joe start talking about Greg Giraldo and Mike DeStefano, 2 brilliant comedians who died earlier this year. It was eery to hear as Patrice O’Neal had a stroke a month later. I figured I know Patrice and Giraldo’s work well but am not clued up about Mike DeStefano. I’m glad to have finally found DeStefano’s comedy now as it’s just the kind of cynical, dark, provocative humour from a true survivor of a crazy, fucked up life that I really appreciate right now. Happy Christmas everybody
Quick Note for Comedy Fans (Non-Presidential)
For anyone who is a fan of comedy and saddened by the death of Patrice O’Neal, SiriusXM’s Opie & Anthony show had an amazing tribute to Patrice yesterday morning. Along with remembrances from Opie, Anthony & Jim Norton, they took phone calls from Bill Burr, Joe Rogan, and Rich Vos, and had in-studio appearances by Robert Kelly, Joe DeRosa, Jim Florentine, Amy Schumer, Kurt Metzger, Russ Meneve, Colin Quinn, Dave Attell, and Louis CK. It was four hours of amazing stories and memories and you can get the whole show from Audible.
Also, if you loved Patrice, go buy his stand-up special, The Elephant In The Room, and help support his family. As Dave Attell hilariously put it yesterday, “We’ve got a purple suit to buy and a gigantic coffin.”
