On the Ropes

Eels

Eels - On the Ropes

I first heard Eels my Sophomore year of high school.  A friend of mine burned me a copy of Beautiful Freak plus some other random Eels and E songs.  I have always loved E’s voice.  Beautiful and strange.

This new album has not at all disappointed me.  And this song got ahold of me immediately.  And it won’t get out.  I will always love E for the amazing music he makes and for continuing to turn out amazing songs like this one.

Every time I find myself in this old bind
watching the death of my hopes
In the ring so long gonna prove em wrong
I’m not knocked out but I’m on the ropes.

I’ve got enough fight left inside this tired heart
to win this one and walk out on my feet
no retreat.

I may never get, everything I bet
but I’m a man who always copes
I’m hurting bad, and fighting mad
I’m not knocked out but I’m on the ropes.

Everything that I hold near and dear to me
is riding on this moment here and now
I know how

I’ve got enough fight left inside this tired heart
to win this one and walk out on my feet
no defeat

Gonna feel so good when it’s understood
but hold the rebirth of my hopes
in the ring so long gotta prove em wrong
I’m not knocked out but I’m on the ropes

Don't Falter

Mint Royale

Arriving a couple days late for Valentine’s Day, here is Mint Royale’s “Don’t Falter”.

As usual, the album contains a bunch of gems, but this song seemed appropriate for the time of the year because of lyrics like this:

Please stay with me

And never miss a chance to kiss me

Babe, I love ya

When you’re with me, it’s always summer

“Take these words and stick 'em in your head, now roll them 'round until you can't forget what's said. Take this time to lie about everything, about who you are and who you've been don't let the world get in!”
