Dear NuWho River haters

I would advise you to never watch classic who, because despite popular belief she is not the first person to show up the doctor, nor is she the first to be ‘timelord-esque’, here, see some examples:

image

Meet Romana, Time Lady, companion to the fourth doctor. Was considered smarter than the Doctor, and schooled him quite a bit. Was also -gasp- one of the first women that the Doctor was ‘shipped with. Her and the fourth joked around quite a bit like River/11th do, and to this date she’s one of my favorite companions. She also left the doctor to help an enslaved race, because Romana is a bamf.

Now Meet Nyssa, companion of the fifth doctor. Nyssa was a hardcore bitch, she became the last of her kind and instead of lamenting about it, she strove on to do good, due to quick thinking she basically stopped the master from destroying the doctor during his regeneration, if it wasn’t for her we wouldn’t even have the doctor. I won’t list everything that she did because her entire run was full of bad-assery, but she leaves the doctor because she caught a disease and instead of whining over it she helps the people that have it find an ultimate cure for it.

Now here’s Zoe, companion of the second doctor. Girl was mega smart and smug as hell when she came up with solutions. Even though she wasn’t ‘as smart’ as the doctor, she got them out of alot of tight binds. She basically programmed their way to victory when the cybermen attacked earth, She lost her memory of the doctor, but in an adventure she was almost programmed into a cyberman and thus regained them for a limited time, just enough time to be clever enough to stop them once more.

Melanie “Mels” Bush, ladies and gentleman. One of the first characters to be out of sync timeline wise with the doctor, this girl does not get enough credit. Companion to both the 6th and 7th doctor, she really is one patient and amazing individual. She was a legitimate genius, and had no issues assimilating to other futuristic worlds. She had to wait for long periods of time for the doctor sometimes, and not even in her original timeline. Instead of whining about it, she just settled in and basically made due with what she had. She also was basically the only one to leave the doctor and still stayed an adventuring bad ass.

Now there IS more, but I figure the point is basically made, so I’m just going to show you one more, the one who I consider one of the most important female companions to the doctor. The one who set the standards for bad ass female characters in who in the first place:

image

Barbara Wright. First actual human female companion to the doctor. Although Barbara was not as smart as the doctor, and made mistakes in her early days, she’s one of the main reasons why the doctor travels with humans. Why he went from thinking they were primitive to ‘so much more’. Why he defends them with every ounce of his being. Seriously, go watch ‘an Unearthly Child’ and see how different the doctor is. We wouldn’t have the doctor that we know and love today without her, because this is the woman that avoided mind control on Marinus, was the one that convinced the aztecs that she was a god, helped plot the rebellion against the invasion of the daleks, and was smart enough to know that her way home could very well be in a dalek ship. She fought with her intellect, her extensive knowledge of history, female emotions and instincts, and also had time to scold the doctor when he was both young and old at the same time.

So as you sit there and go ‘no one should be as smart as the doctor’, or the like, remember these females.

Note: I did not put Sarah Jane on here simply because basically everyone knows who she is.

Watching some Season 1 NuDoctor

Nine doesn’t get enough love, but he was so awesome in his own way

I believe there was also a screencap somewhere crediting David Tennant as Doctor Who? And then there was that time he answered ‘yes, precisely’ when asked ‘Doctor Who?’. And the time he signed something as Doctor W. And the time he introduced himself as Doctor von Wer. And the time WOTAN refered to him as Doctor Who.

Which meeeeeeeeeeans, BOTH The Doctor AND Doctor Who are canonically correct. You can’t just dismiss the latter because it’s not used nowadays or because you ~don’t like it~.

So, there, CAN WE CALM OUR TITS NOW?

Doctor Who rant.

So I have to ask the Whovian community about classic WHO fans. And no, I’m talking about all of them when I ask, but why are classic WHO fans so cynical and demeaning when it comes to “NuWho” and its fans as they call it? I’ve never seen a fandom that’s so damn bitter about it’s own fucking fandom. You guys do realize it’s all Doctor Who right? It’s all connected to the same story.

Why so cynical guys? I really wanna know. Is it because you feel some kind of weird sense of elitism just because you’ve seen what a lot of “NuWho” fans haven’t seen? It makes no sense to me.

Is it because it’s different? I always thought Doctor Who revolved around change? Not to mention a gap of what? Two decades between the old series and the new one? No shit, it’s going to be different.

I started watching series 1 of classic who, and that’s cool. But really, who cares? That doesn’t make me above those in the fandom who haven’t seen the old series. I don’t know. This has just been bugging me so I thought I’d post about it. People who act this way need to grow the hell up. Just saying.

Anyways, that’s all I gotta say.

I just love how fandom hates Martha for pining and trips over itself in the same breath to completely absolve Ten's behavior.

No.
That’s not how it works.
