Welcome back to my Tumblr. blog. After writing only about the WWE, for the first time, I’m posting a TNA Wrestling-related blog. If you’re wondering why SummerSlam or Hell in a Cell flashbacks are missing, then I’d like to explain that I prefer to write about something when I feel I want to; there probably won’t be any weekly or monthly issues or so. Anyway, before I start I’d like to say that I don’t watch iMPACT Wrestling on a weekly basis, I’m just an occassional viewer; that means I don’t have any idea of what was/is going on in most of the storylines. Enjoy the following text and you can talk to me about these blogs, if you agree / disagree on Facebook or Twitter (links are above).
-> The Opener: TNAW X-Division Championship: Austin Aries © def. Brian Kendrick
**** (4 out of 5)
Boom. Is there a better way to kick-off a pay-per-view? This match was fast-paced and technically sound and included many great spots. The Pendulum Elbow looks always awesome. TBK’s huge Sliced Bread No. 2 was epic, the second attempt was a very nice idea and I’m sure it would’ve looked sick if Aries didn’t counter the move. Speaking of sick, after Austin’s Brainbuster the match was over for Spanky.

Gotta love Austin Aries.

-> Full Metal Mayhem: Rob Van Dam def. Jerry Lynn
**** (4 out of 5)
It’s always good to hear E-C-Dub chants; missing those a lot in the WWE. Back to topic, another very good match, with the same attributes as the previous match. Obviously, it was hardcore too. There were countless terrific Ladder and Chair-spots, such as the Rolling Thunder on the ladder-sandwich, the failed crowd barrier Moonsault, the Lionsault which also featured a ladder and the match-ending Van Terminator, all courtesy of RVD. Lynn’s Sunset Flip Powerbomb looked like it should’ve hit the ladder but instead it hit the crowd barrier - nonetheless, it looked nasty. These two veterans still got it, no question about it. Great match.

-> Triple Threat Match: Crimson def. Matt Morgan and Samoa Joe
**1/2 (2 and a half out of 5)
This match wasn’t anything special. I just don’t like Crimson, I don’t know. He has an awesome entrance tune though. Morgan’s dive to the outside of the ring was nice and Joe’s Suicide Flying Forearm was also pretty amazing. It’s sad that Samoa Joe was the third wheel in this match, but again, I don’t know how he has been doing during the BFG Series, etc.

-> Falls Count Anywhere Match: Mr. Anderson def. Bully Ray
***1/2 (3 and a half out of 5)
This match was pretty good. Bully Ray’s mic skills are pretty decent. Nice spots throughout the match, like the Bubba Bomb through the table (really thought that would finish Kennedy off), the Piledriver in the backstage area, the use of the crowd barrier or the finishing Mic Check through the table. The mic shot was great too. I assume the Kenton Bomb should’ve finished the match, too bad Anderson missed B-Ray. Lulzy moment when that woman in the crowd threw her beer onto Anderson’s visage (did you see his face afterwards?).

-> TNAW Women’s Knockout Championship: Four Corners Match: Velvet Sky def. Winter © (with Angelina Love), Madison Rayne and Mickie James (Special Referee Karen Jarrett)
*1/2 (1 and a half out of 5)
Didn’t like the booking at all, with Karen as the Special Ref. Match quality was better than the WWE Divas standard, thanks to Mickie James. But hell, Velvet’s better than (or at least as good as) most of the Divas in McMahonland. I mean the Bellas? Rosa Mendes? Really? I see, I digress. It’s great to see Velvet winning the KO Title (with a little help of Traci Brooks), right after Kelly Kelly this year (I compare these two all the time). And yup. I watched this match with my pants off (thanks to CM Punk for the great advice). I mean seriously, all the chicks involved in this contest looked irresistibly hot (okay Katie Lea was kinda skinny and Madison’s outfit was horrible). Karen may be the hottest special referee I’ve seen … okay, there’s also Trish Stratus. But you get what I’m sayin’. ;)

-> I Quit Match: AJ Styles def. Christopher Daniels
***1/2 (3 and a half out of 5)
Another good contest, the most intense match of the night. Yet again a match that included several good spots, such as the trademark maneuvers of both men, the BME, the Backflip Reverse DDT or the SB Flying Forearm. I always appreciate AJ’s moves (well, who doesn’t?). I liked the intensity and brutality of this bout, although I think the idea of the screwdriver was a bit too extreme for my taste (do they wanna kill each other or what?). Sure, it’d portray the hatred these two have for each other, but it was a bit exaggerated IMO. Aftermath was very nice with Daniels delivering the Angel’s Wings to his former tag team partner and friend on the stage.

-> The Jeff and Jeff Segment
Jeff-Hardy-Standard if you ask me. I don’t know, but I think I’ve seen these types of segments many times. Now this doesn’t mean it wasn’t good since it served its purpose. This shouldn’t have happened on the biggest event of TNA Wrestling. These confrontations occur on the weeklies, I haven’t even seen it on a WWE B-PPV before (I could be wrong). But both had to show up somehow I guess, which is certainly comprehensible. I decided to not rate Segments, only good Promos perhaps.

-> Sting def. Hulk Hogan (with Ric Flair)
**1/2 (2 and a half out of 5)
This wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. It was a nasty, brutal brawl and I love to see Hogan pulling off his heel-moves. The finish was very nice too, with the referee (Eric Bischoff’s son, forgot his name; was something with JJ I think … maybe Jayden James?) counting the match to the middle and not listening to his father. The aftermath was confusing. While it was pretty evil by Bischoff to hit his own son with a chair shot (awesome!), I didn’t get how Hulk Hogan, out of nowhere, turns face and let’s Hulkamania run wild. I enjoyed it, although I (obviously) can’t stand the real-life HH but this is the wrestling world and in the wrestling world Hulkamania has been awesome most of the time (haven’t seen too much of his TNA run though). It was really confusing to see Hogan taking on Ric Flair, the one who supported him throughout the whole brawl, and it was even more confusing to see him shaking hands and bro-hugging Joker Sting when the ring was cleared, after a brutal battle.

-> The Main Event: TNAW World Heavyweight Championship: Kurt Angle © def. Bobby Roode
***1/2 (3 and a half out of 5)
This match was great. Highlights were Roode’s Top-Rope German Suplex and the thousands attempts and counters of Angle’s Ankle Lock / Angle Slam and Roode’s crossface, those were very nice. Why didn’t this match deserve a better rating then? The finish was shit. It was BS when Randy Orton defeated Christian that way at Capitol Punishment (or Over the Limit, I don’t know) and at BFG, in the Main Event, this ending should’ve never even been planned. I mean, the referee not seeing Roode’s arms/feet under the ropes, during the Main Event of the biggest PPV of the new WCW? Seriously … And well, while I wasn’t really impressed with Robert Roode as the new top face at first, he really won me over during the contest and showed everyone that he belongs in the Main Event. He had so much momentum from the Bound for Glory Series victory and that very night would’ve been the perfect time to give him the TNA World Title (the belt looks grand by the way). I don’t think he’s out of the Title picture yet and I don’t think he’ll go back to the Midcard or wherever he had been before, I’m sure he’ll become World Champion rather sooner than later. But still, this night would’ve been such a feel-good moment for him and his fans, similar to Chris Benoit winning the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XX, and Robert Roode would still have that huge amount of momentum. It may be good for the storyline that the match ended this way, but folks, this is Bound for Glory, TNA’s WrestleMania. Damn shame.

Conclusion: This event was pretty good. The match quality was very high (Aries-Kendrick, RD-Lynn, Angle-Roode), the match time was appropriate. Bad booking still finds its way to some contests of this PPV though (Knockout’s Championship, Main Event). As a whole, this Pay-Per-View seemed like a B-PPV of the WWE to me. The way the officials handled the storylines (I Quit, JJ Segment, Main Event) and the way they portrayed some backstage segments weren’t biggest-event-of-the-year-worthy. Overall, I’d rate this PPV: *** stars. Yeah, I used my calculator.
I’ll most likely post my next article soon. I mentioned SummerSlam before … guess what my next blog will be about? Thanks for reading. Have a nice day. Or night. 8)
