in my opinion this is the most heartrending piece chopin ever composed. there’s something about the beginning that literally makes it sound like someone’s voice sobbing instead of a piano. and then when it moves to the major key it becomes beautiful and uplifting, like a ray of hope, only to have the sentiment dramatically destroyed by sharp double octaves that sound like gunfire, leading back to the initial melody but this time it’s violent and desperate. and the ending… the sustained note near the end before the final chord makes it seem almost unfinished, like he couldn’t add anything else out of grief. I could go on for hours about this.
