The Pirate Bay is now hosted in North Korea, according to a statement released on their site, dateline Pyongyang.
thepiratebay.seThe Pirate Bay has been hunted in many countries around the world. Not for illegal activities but being persecuted for beliefs of freedom of information. Today, a new chapter is written in the history of the movement, as well as the history of the internets.
A week ago we could reveal that The Pirate Bay was accessed via Norway and Catalonya. The move was to ensure that these countries and regions will get attention to the issues at hand. Today we can reveal that we have been invited by the leader of the republic of Korea, to fight our battles from their network.
This is truly an ironic situation. We have been fighting for a free world, and our opponents are mostly huge corporations from the United States of America, a place where freedom and freedom of speech is said to be held high. At the same time, companies from that country is chasing a competitor from other countries, bribing police and lawmakers, threatening political parties and physically hunting people from our crew. And to our help comes a government famous in our part of the world for locking people up for their thoughts and forbidding access to information.
We believe that being offered our virtual asylum in Korea is a first step of this country’s changing view of access to information. It’s a country opening up and one thing is sure, they do not care about threats like others do. In that way, TPB and Korea might have a special bond. We will do our best to influence the Korean leaders to also let their own population use our service, and to make sure that we can help improve the situation in any way we can. When someone is reaching out to make things better, it’s also ones duty to grab their hand.
Dennis Rodman and the Pirate Bay. What a week for North Korea. (And by the way, we checked. It’s March 4, not April 1. And some on Hacker News have done a traceroute of the IP and found that it does seem to lead to North Korea.)
EDIT: More details on this situation from TorrentFreak.
Obama says N.Korea poses 'direct threat' to US
Ties between the two Koreas have been frosty since Lee took office in 2008 and linked aid to progress on North Korean nuclear disarmament. They deteriorated further after the North’s deadly attacks on the South last year — the sinking of a South Korean warship and the shelling of an island.
North Korea's relationship with the U.S. has improved enough that a North Korean nuclear regulator is coming to the U.S. — seriously.
google.comIn another sign of warming relations between two wartime foes, a senior North Korean nuclear negotiator will attend a security conference in the United States, a person with knowledge of the negotiations between Washington and Pyongyang told The Associated Press on Thursday.
Word of Ri Yong Ho’s visit to the forum at Syracuse University, where he may also meet on the sidelines with U.S. officials, comes on the heels of a breakthrough agreement that will provide much-needed U.S. food aid to North Korea in exchange for a rollback of its nuclear programs.
The agreement announced Wednesday sets in motion a plan laid out by North Korean leader Kim Jong Il before his death in December: to improve relations with the U.S. and to get back to six-nation disarmament-for-aid negotiations. Significant challenges remain, however, in achieving the long-term goal of the U.S. and other nations: to persuade Pyongyang to end its nuclear ambitions altogether.
Next thing you know, we’re gonna invite these guys to a slumber party or something and watch episodes of “Beavis & Butthead” or “Team America: World Police.” OK, maybe not that second movie …
Mourn Day for North Korea
Rest In Piece Kim Jong Il
Supreme Leader Kim Jong Il has died, North Korean state television reported Monday. He was 69. Kim died of heart failure while travelling by train on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. local time, the country’s state run news agency reported. NKTV announced his death and endorsed his son and heir apparent Kim Jong Un in a statement released Dec. 19.Base dun sa mga napanood kong videos, Sobrang affected yung mga North Koreans as in humahagulgol silang lahat sa mga statues ni Kim Jong-il.
ANONYMOUS#1: “Kim Jong Il told his people he was the shuttle commander on the first rocket to the Moon. The sad part is the people are so horribly brainwashed that they believed him”
ANONYMOUS#2: “Feel sorry for these people they’ve been so badly brainwashed into thinking this guy is God. In North Korea every household has speakers which announce everyday how the “great leader has provided for his country and how he is God and you shall obey him” the fact is if they revolt or rebel they’re put away for life or even killed for going up against their inhumane laws it’s fucked up no one should have their freedom taken away like this.”

C-O-I-N-C-I-D-E-N-C-E? IMPOSIBUR!
North Korea army says it has final approval for nuclear attack on U.S.
N. Korea is upping it’s rhetoric against the U.S. over sanctions imposed on it by the UN. The Whitehouse, and U.S. Secretary of Defense Hagel are taking the nuclear threat seriously, and are moving missile defense system to Guam. N. Korea claims that war could be only a few days away.
“North Korea dramatically escalated its warlike rhetoric on Thursday, warning that it had authorized plans for nuclear strikes on targets in the United States.
“The moment of explosion is approaching fast,” the North Korean military said, warning that war could break out “today or tomorrow”.
Pyongyang’s latest pronouncement came as Washington scrambled to reinforce its Pacific missile defenses, preparing to send ground-based interceptors to Guam and dispatching two Aegis class destroyers to the region.
Tension was also high on the North’s heavily fortified border with South Korea, after Kim Jong-Un’s isolated regime barred South Koreans from entering a Seoul-funded joint industrial park on its side of the frontier.” - AFP
