Sufjan Stevens - Somewhere Over The Rainbow (Australia 2012)

“Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by Sufjan Stevens // Live in Australia 2012

During the recent performance of their Planetarium show at the Sydney Vivid Festival, Sufjan Stevens, Nico Muhly, and Bryce Dressner (The National) closed out the show with this lovely cover of the classic, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”. It’s a gorgeous take, even if I’d kind of like to hear Sufjan take a crack at it without the voice modifier, but that’s a tiny squabble when something is this pretty.

Anthony de Mare performs Nico Muhly’s version of “Color and Light” from Sunday in the Park with George, part of The Liaisons Project.

“I think also I have an erotic fixation on Things – literally any Things – being done well. When I walk past, for instance, the store Russ & Dóttirs on Houston street as I just did and saw a man cutting a side of salmon so evenly, so thinly… it gave me a little shiver. Watching somebody make ravioli expertly, watching an oboist navigate a passage over the break expertly, watching somebody fold a fitted sheet…”
