Mabagal na Pagtugon vs Fuel Hikes Kinondena
KINONDENA ng militanteng grupong Gabriela ang makupad na tugon ng Kongreso sa matinding problema ng bansa sa sunud-sunod na pagtaas ng presyo ng langis dahil sa Oil Deregulation Law.
Umanib din ang grupo sa kilos protesta na pinangunahan ng Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN) upang kalampagin ang Kongreso na aksyunan ang mga panukalang batas para ibasura ang Republic Act 8479 o Downstream Oil Industry Deregulation Law.
Ayon kay Lana Linaban, Secretary General ng Gabriela, dapat madaliin ang pagbasura sa batas dahil sa walang humpay na pagtaas ng presyo ng langis at lumalakas na paniwala ng publiko na may ginagawang pandaraya sa presyo ang malalaking kumpanya ng langis.
“Ipinakita ng Kongreso na kaya nilang magratsada ng desisyon sa kaso ni Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona, pero ang mahahalagang panukalang batas na tuwirang makakabenepisyo sa mamamayan, tinutulugan nila!,” ani Linaban.
Noong nakaraang taon, kasabay ng mga kilos protesta sa lansangan, sumama ang Gabriela sa dayalogo ng mga progresibong organisasyon kay House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte.
Sa dayalogo, hiniling ng mga kinatawan ng mga organisasyon na ideklarang prayoridad ang bill na inihain ng mga progresibong partylists kaugnay ng pag-repeal sa Oil Dereguation Law. —Gerry Abaya
