The In- Between : A New Musical !

The Story

Sarcastic nineteen-year-old dropout and perpetual under-achiever, Flick Wimple, has always lived in the shadow of her caring but neurotic elder sister, Alice. Since their parents died in a car crash, Alice has had to become more of a mother to Flick - a responsibility that traps them both and heightens their love-hate relationship. Resigned to the way things are, Flick determines to expect nothing exceptional from life and give little in return.

She is forced to re-evaluate, however, when one day she steps through the wrong doorway and finds herself trapped in the space between parallel worlds; the place known as The In-Between. There she is met by the mysterious, if slightly nerdy, Guide Calicus; a young man who has spent his entire life leading people between worlds. He offers Flick the chance to leave her problems behind and journey to another world and, as he leads her through the In-Between, the two begin to form a close bond, causing him to wonder what it would be like to live a life of his own.

But all is not right in the In-Between; other Guides are starting to go missing and tears are appearing in the walls… Ultimately, Flick must make a choice; to hold on to her past, her sister and the world she knows, or risk everything to try and save much more…

The In-Between is an original story of love, friendship and letting go, with both humour and heart.

“˜Cause you love who you love. And you can’t help how you’re made. You don’t have no say. You’re heart decides. It’s that simple I’m afraid. Yes you love who you love. Common sense may say it’s wrong.”

“Like “Next to Normal,” which centered on a mother struggling with mental illness, “If/Then” is a contemporary-sounding musical about a strongly drawn female protagonist, Elizabeth, who Ms. Menzel described in a statement as “complex, flawed, and surprising.”

—Idina Menzel is finally making the trip back to Broadway (via Arts Beat).. in A Kitt/York/Greif production. Bye, money!

New Musical CHAPLIN to Open at the Barrymore Theatre on September 10, 2012

Chaplin, a new musical depicting the life of film icon Charlie Chaplin, with music and lyrics by Christopher Curtis and book by three-time Tony Award-winner Thomas Meehan (Annie, The Producers, Hairspray) and Christopher Curtis, will open on Broadway on Monday, September 10, 2012 at the Barrymore Theatre (243 West 47th Street). Previews will begin Tuesday, August 21, 2012. Acclaimed director/choreographer Warren Carlyle (Finian’s Rainbow, Hugh Jackman, Back on Broadway) directs and choreographs the production. Casting and additional creative team to be announced soon.

From the slums of London to the heights of Hollywood, Chaplin is the showbiz Broadway musical about the silent film legend the world couldn’t stop talking about - Charlie Chaplin. The brand new 22-person musical reveals the man behind the legend, the undeniable genius that forever changed the way America went to the movies.

Chaplin will be produced on Broadway by the Rich Entertainment Group (Bob & Mindy Rich), Roy Gabay (Fela!, The Little Dog Laughed, Steel Magnolias), and John and Claire Caudwell (John is a high profile UK entrepreneur, philanthropist and champion of many charitable causes including his own charitable foundation “Caudwell Children”), with additional producers to be announced. Rich/Caudwell are also co-producing this season’s productions of Jesus Christ Superstar and Leap of Faith

Chaplin comes to Broadway following the popular success of a production at the La Jolla Playhouse in 2010, under the name Limelight

Holy Musical B@man: What I'm Anticipating and What I'll Miss.

Top 5 Things I’m Excited For:

  1. It’s a new StarKid musical!
  2. Our newest StarKids, Nico Ager and Jeff Blim.
  3. New music from different writers and musicians, Nick Gage and Scott Lamps.
  4. The return of Chris Allen (aside from his cameo at the beginning of Starship).
  5. Not having to spend as much time out of the day to watch the musicals (though I don’t really mind, to be honest).

Top 5 Things I Will Miss:

  1. All the missing StarKids, specifically Joe Moses.

    image

  2. Darren writing the songs.

    image

  3. The vulgarity.
  4. As much as I love parodies (which is A LOT), but I was kind of hoping for another original (like Starship and Me and My Dick).
  5. Spending a lot of time watching the musicals (which contradicts my tenth point in the previous list but I also kind of like the musicals long and kind of don’t.  I should make an iffy list).
