Exchange Students
This post is a change of pace for me, and maybe now you’ll see a not-so-depressing side of me. I wonder what all of you internetizens think of me so far anyway…
This past weekend I had to host an exchange student, and as you may have figured out by this blog I’m probably not the most outgoing, exciting, optimistic person to be around.
But this weekend I found out that I can be genuinely helpful, and I didn’t have to force myself to be happy. Something about being around someone I was responsible for 24-hours a day, and seeing them actually appreciate things I did for them made me truly energetic and happy. I could forget myself for a little while, and discover enjoying life - playing in parks, singing, sharing stories, basketball, walks in the city, wind. There is a lot to be gained and appreciated when you remove yourself from your life just a little bit. Getting out of habitual ruts and blazing new trails.
I hope one day I can tell these exchange students how much they helped me by coming to visit here.
