The Building of Many Ships

Humanstuck AU where Kanaya and Rose are dating and Kanaya moves into Rose’s apartment with her and there’s a whole ‘new tenant meet-n-greet’ hosted by the building super Mr. Scratch (he is an excellent superintendent) and Rose introduces everyone and there’s her brother who lives one floor down with his best friend and they’re pretty much all over each other in a sickeningly cute way but maintain that they are the best of bros and everyone stopped giving a shit about it a long time ago.

There’s this irritating guy with a weird accent who lives across the hall from Rose and they talk about wizards sometimes and for some reason he’s dating this freakishly tall sweaty strong guy who mostly started hanging around the building to keep an eye on his cat-adoring little sister, who moved in with her boyfriend on the ground floor.  Her boyfriend has trouble with volume control and has this weird thing about romcoms but he’s actually one of the more stable people in the building?  Together they have, like, three cats (maybe four, but since they keep it clean, no one’s tattled on them to Mr. Scratch, who probably already knows anyway because he’s omnipotent or something freaky like that).

Weird-accent dude’s ex-girlfriend also lives in the building and he may or may not have moved in because he was having trouble letting her go but now she’s dating Rose’s brother’s boyfriend’s best friend’s sister.  As much of a mouthful as that is.  They’re ridiculously adorable and they volunteer at the animal shelter together and have a ton of fish and also a dog that’s probably too big for regulations and also probably about a mile of hair between them and sometimes they get together with the girl who really likes archaeology who lives on the top floor and do each other’s hair.

The archaeology chick is dating some weird shut-in hacker guy but she coaxes him into coming to building social functions where he just kind of sits in the corner and glares at people.  He’ll talk to the shouty boyfriend of the cat girl, though.  He also talks to Rose’s sister because they have hacking in common.  They are both bananas at hacking, you have no idea.  Rose’s sister is dating her brother’s best boyfriend’s cousin who really loves to bake and works in the family bakery and will bring cake and things to building social functions and it is instantly gobbled up by her brother, who expends way too much energy being all enthusiastic about adventures and really terrible movies.

Adventure dude is dating Rose’s older brother who has a bunch of weird puppets and the last time the blind chick visited them she started referring to their apartment as Uncanny Valley.  The blind chick, who is friends with Rose’s younger brother but generally bothers everyone in the building and is way too nosy and enthusiastic about the law, is dating this one girl who, oddly enough, may actually be a criminal.  They’ve been friends for years though, apparently, and they used to hate each other but ended up dating anyway.

The potential-criminal’s ex-boyfriend lives in the building too, on the ground floor because he’s paralyzed and his ex-girlfriend might have had something to do with that but no one is quite sure, they just know that she still bugs him a lot and only leaves him alone when his boyfriend is around.  They think it’s probably because he’s a Juggalo and that’s enough to unsettle anyone.

So there’re, like, 10 apartments in the building and 4/5 of them are filled with gay people and also almost two whole families live there for some reason, but in different apartments and it is the weirdest, most dramatic place Kanaya has ever been and she kind of loves it.  It helps that Rose is there, though.

i honestly think they would be really good for each other and balance each others personalities out and i like to imagine karkats reaction when / if nepeta ever gets the chance to tell him how she feels
