Tonight's episode of NBC's Smash
was giving me so many Stephanie J. Block feels. On Smash the actress who’s been performing their musical’s lead is going to be replaced by “a star.” Stephanie J. Block read/performed in the workshops as Elphaba in the development of the musical Wicked and was replaced with Idina Menzel for more “star power.”
Stop giving me feelings, you soapy musical show!

‘Smash’ Preview: Katharine McPhee Performs Florence + The Machine’s ‘Shake It Out’
HollywoodLife.com has your exclusive sneak peek of Karen’s off-off-off-off-off-Broadway debut!Karen (Katharine McPhee) may not have snagged the lead role in Marilyn: The Musical – yet — but that doesn’t mean she’s staying out of the spotlight. In this clip from the March 12 episode of NBC’s Smash, Karen takes center-stage at a bar mitzvah, where she belts out a solid rendition of Florence + The Machine‘s “Shake It Out” for a crowd of pre-teen whippersnappers.
I went to my fair share of bar mitzvahs back in the day, and I’ve got to say, they all could have used a little Karen Cartwright to sing away the pre-pubescent awkwardness.
(Plus, click here for our exclusive scoop on Julia’s affair — and Fran’s revenge!)Check out Karen’s performance of “Shake It Out” below, and be sure to watch the new episode in its entirety March 12 at 10 p.m. on NBC! You know I’ll be there.
Sorry international members, I couldn’t find a link that’s not NBC. D:
Will it be a Smash hit?

The first music video (/trailer) for Smash has officially been released!
The show debuts on NBC February 6 and follows a group of Broadway actors as they put on a play about the life of Marilyn Monroe. Former American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee and Will & Grace actress Debra Messing star in the new series.
The video stars Katharine singing Beautiful and features snippets of her audition for the musical, with a stern looking Debra on the panel. I loved Katharine when she was on Idol, so was very excited to hear she’d landed this role! After being robbed of the Idol crown, it’s good to see her talents are finally be appreciated!
Guest stars lined up include Nick Jonas, and with Glee slowly fizzling out, do you think it’s going to be a Smash hit?
